Does it really matter? we are witnessing the 60th pick of the draft become an all star and lead the legendary Boston Celtics. what he has achieved is a miracle!

i d rather enjoy this than trouble my mind with rankings!

Yes very true he has already defied all the odds ....under the pressure of carrying the name of a great NBA guard hung around his neck.   He is the best little guy since Spud Webb.

The threads are kind of entertaining when they go off the rails (telling people to go #%^ themselves). I can't imagine the mods will be very happy with it.

Putting IT in the same discussion as Spud Webb or Nate Robinson is crazy talk. More like Allen Iverson and Calvin Murphy.

All I know is IT4 is not in the same tier as RW, Curry, Harden etc.

Incredible value at 6m per season though

Hm...call me a homer here...but just checked up the stats and steph has dropped off a cliff, almost back to where he was before those mvp campaigns. Their stats are pretty comparable now, with IT leading in scoring, assists, turnovers and steph leading in rebounds and steals as well as being more efficient. They're dead even in blocks. I do understand that Steph is playing in a reduced role but it's not like IT is shooting the ball a lot more (it's like slightly more than 1 more attempt per game) while scoring like 3 more points than steph in almost virtually identical minutes. And for the team's performances, the warriors are great but the Celtics are no slouch either. Stats don't tell the whole story, but they do give a good description of what's going on and most non stat indicators don't really rank thomas much lower than Steph. I think that up till now IT has shown that he's the better player than curry. (emphasis on up till now, if Steph explodes I'll be very willing to admit he's the better player, imo they're around even with IT having a very slight edge.)

My attempt at a non-homer stance on this debate: Steph is the much, much better player, but IT is having the better season. Of course, virtually every non-Celtics fan would find that statement absolutely sacrilegious.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Yeah I'm a huge IT fan and no way in hell would I say that IT is a better player than Steph. Steph is one of the best shooters of all time, an MVP, and a true supestar. IT is a star that can carry this team, but unfortunately because he's not the 3 point shooter, or even true point guard, that Steph is he unfortunately doesn't have a chance at being able to surpass Steph as a player.

Yeah I expressed my views incorrectly, I wanted to say that he's having a better season right now and he should be recognized for it. Of course, he needs to keep it up for at least one whole season before being in the discussion

Pretty cool.  But Steph could put up MVP numbers easily if he switched teams with Westbrook or Harden or several other nonstacked teams.

Honestly no. Steph is a very special type of mvp that requires him to be in some specific situations in order to be special (I'm talking about 30ppg,6apg type of special, mvp caliber). If he goes to the thunder teams would most likely lock him down, causing him to be worn out. He's not a superman like RW nor is he a foul magnet like harden on the rockets. He'll most likely put up numbers he did in his first mvp season (26 ppg,6apg) but as you see this will not win an mvp this season because IT is having near identical stats.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
So would you win the number one pick, and you can either draft Isaiah Thomas or Steph Curry, who do you choose?

Curry is slightly overrated, but still deserved the MVP. Unanimous? Not so much.

Could Durant win MVP with having one of his most efficient seasons of his career?

Steph because he's a superstar. I'm not saying IT is better than Curry (if he keeps this production up for around 4 seasons he'll have a case),I'm just saying he's having a better season than curry. To answer your other question, KD would win an mvp if he played one of his most efficient seasons in his career if Westbrook and harden aren't playing like beasts, this season is insane because your normal mvp stats may not even be in a superstar discussion (~25 ppg,~5 apg,~5rpg is usually worthy of an mvp or at least be considered as one, but this is jimmy butler type of stats this season iirc)

I like what Gorman said about IT.  "If only he was a foot shorter."  8)
