In case anybody is wondering, worst case scenario you can think of in this situation, the NBA has a plan for that.

From wikipedia:

Wow.  Taking a look at rosters around the league, this scenario is a basketball disaster (of course, secondary by an incalculable magnitude to the human tragedy).

I'm guessing it's just there so the team that has this happen could at least field a professional roster and the owners would have some reason not to cash out. If a team just had to find 15 people off the street, no prospects etc. people would probably stop watching and it would take years to even be good enough to have product you could get people to tune into. On the other hand, the sympathy factor and the intrigue of basically watching a real life version of Major League might carry it.
