I am not a father yet, but I would criticize Horford had he missed his child's birth, not the other way around. It is a lifetime event against a basketball game... no contest.

I would have judged Horford harshly if he actually did play. Family is bigger than basketball.

I honestly think most people don't even know what empathy is.  Too many control freaks and not enough common sense in this world or people with a sense of humor.

Too much fake empathy in this world is more like it.

Just reading the article on the main page.  I bet I'm a much kinder person.  No offense.

These same people who preach empathy would be the first to not practice it too.  Or common sense for that matter.

I bet they do really cruel things too without even realizing it.  I know they do.

Phoniest article on CB to date.  "kill the haters" am i right?  Ignorance is funny thing.  Now you are calling people trolls too. Yeah that's real empathy bunch of phony bs.   Puhlease hypocrites.

Please, all knowing Walker. Tell us about your superior understanding of empathy...smh

Your response is telling. You didn't even understand what I said.  Not all knowing by any means.  More just in a world of media people who think they do.

I think a lot of people today have lost something yeah because of it too.  Like actual empathy for people who are not like that at all.

You're entitled to your opinion, and you're certainly welcome to critique articles, but please don't call names. Personal attacks on our members are a big no-no.

I stopped following the sports shows years ago, but I remember Felger and Tony Massarotti used to not know much about basketball. I used to go to Shaughnessy articles to read the comments trolling him. I got tired of that also.

I like watching games. I would look at this portion of the season as the pre-season. Danny might make some moves midway.

This was good timing that we had a cupcake game. I was happy to hear they let Horford be with his family. This was a good game for Kelly Olynyk and Tyler Zeller to stretch their legs and work on their timing.

This is a non-story. I'm sure if it had been San Antonio, Horford would have played or it would have been the Celtics telling him it's early in the season and go be with your family. He just had a concussion. A little more rest never hurts. Horford is our big hope the next four years to win a title. He should be treated like fine china. Unfortunately, it looks like Amir is done, but he may come in handy if Danny wants to make a big move for a center. Brooklyn is losing games on schedule. Early on they were winning too much.

The season is young. Enjoy it. Don't make mountains out of molehills. Let these guys play a few months.

Last year Sullinger was amazing.... for one month. Let's see what happens. We are not far off from having a plausible chance at the Cinderella season.
TP....Smart move. I did the same after listening to similar drivel years ago from a couple sports personalities.

The one thing that always unites Celticsblog is a universal loathing for most Boston area sports media personalities.  Cheers gentlemen, and may Felger [expletives deleted] on [this is a family site] and then Mazz can [redacted].

Thanks. I am part of the older crowd who can remember when the Boston Globe Sports was the reason to buy it. Sports radio is something I also grew up on. I remember The Sports Huddle as a kid. Those guys were very funny.

The t.v. part of it is where it all went downhill. The Globe went downhill because the older writers died off and we were stuck with Ryan and Shaugnessy. I did like Jackie McMullan. But then the Celtics hired Shira Springer to cover the Celtics. She was awful.

T.V. guys- Donny Marshall was awful. Scal was bad at first, but now he seems to understand how to balance personality with consistency. I liked Eckersley when he covered Red Sox games. I liked Jose Canseco whenever he was on talk radio.

I guess one gets older, these articles and shows get lame, and one realises there is more to life than sports. One would hope so anyway.

If I watch three games a week, that should be enough.

I hate the refs. If we had a bad team, I would not be watching. I see these away games and a lot of those arenas look empty.

I can do without knee-jerk reactions. I watched the games, so I know what people are going to say based on if they are in the half glass empty or full tiers.

Horford might put us over the top. I didn't know he was this good. I did learn a bit from Doc and the one year they slept through the season and turned on the switch and almost stole the series from the Lakers. There's no way to know how we will look by the end of the year. Danny could make a trade and all of a sudden we are elite. I don't want to sell Horford's ceiling short.

People say he is a top 20 or 30 player. I think he can be the best in that it's about hitting a standard. Pierce hit it in 2008.

So now someone will say no way can you compare Pierce, a Finals MVP, to Horford who has disappeared in some series.

Or maybe people think Horford is the same kind of proven Big Three component as a Paul Pierce. And KG was very good in 2008, but I don't know why so many think Horford can't match that in his own way.

My main point is Horford had to be with his family and thankfully the Horfords now know that none of us agree with Felger and wish he would go away. We technically shouldn't even know he exists seeing we quit watching that crap.

They hired the baseball player Lou Merloni. I probably quit around then. Maybe he is good now, but he wasn't then.

Johnny Most was the best. He is in the top tier for everything Boston sports related not including the actual players or teams.

I was young, but Ned Martin was awful. Maybe he had Alzheimer's. He kept messing up player names.

It was something special growing up with Boston sports. We were losers. We were the Buffalo Bills but for all four sports. We were the best second best sports town ever. We were Titletown if there wasn't that one other team in every sport. I could somehow relate to the Bills.

I needed to be born earlier or later. The Millennium Boston fans don't understand what happened. They are probably just grateful their older relatives are a lot more calm since 2004. If I was older, I could have clung to Orr and Esposito and Bill Russell.

But to wrap up, even though we were lovable losers, those sports pages were fun. Now it's just money. We have people with threads worried about future Isaiah and Bradley contracts. Danny might have to be like Belichick and cut some cords. That's why we need to appreciate each year. It's easy to say we have 0% chance of winning it all. But if by chance it happens, some or a lot of these guys will not be back in a couple years or five years down the road.

We need a trade or the team needs to gel. Or this will take two years for Smart, Brown and the next pick to age along with maybe guys like Zizac and Yabusele. We have a lot of good young players. The NBA was stupid to let the Boston-Brooklyn trade go through. The NBA got greedy. I thought it was obvious Pierce and KG were finished or entering the dinosaur years. It was great for us, but if the league stops trades which are going to hurt the league, that should have been one of them.

Evan Turner making $17 million year.

I love Olynyk, but i think Zeller doesn't deserve $8 million and I'd hate to think what these guys expect for contracts.

I am not naive. If we didn't have a young, exciting team with some vets and a great future, future picks, I'd be off of sports completely. The three point shooting is actually kind of boring. It's a great game. It shouldn't turn into wake me up for the fourth quarter. A lot of these teams stink and are gimmicks. It's almost impossible to stay above the curve unless you get lucky like Ainge did. Danny was a genius to realize you can't play lottery games. You get ripped off by ping pong balls. The players are too raw.
