We keep hearing about how Cousins should/could be available by the February deadline.

Why isn't there the same buzz about Anthony Davis? The Pelicans are 0-7 and have been brutally mismanaged by their ownership, on par with what Divac and Ranadive have done in SAC.

Oh but they are playing without Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans I hear you say.

Firstly Evans is always injured, secondly, Jrue Holiday is a second player but he's not going to make you a playoff team in the West.

AD should be forcing a trade, based on the complete incompetence of ownership.

They gave SOLOMON Hill, yes Solomon Hill $45+ in the offseason, he is their 3rd highest player!

But this is a result of the new CBA I hear you say, no it's not Tyreke Evans was given a similar contract before the new CBA kicked in along with Omer Asik.

Hill, Asik, Evans, Holiday and Etuan Moore, get paid per year individually more than Isaiah, Crowder, and Avery. That shows what a wiz Ainge is but also shows how badly managed the Pels have been

I'm just wondering why Pelican's ownership gets a pass whilst everyone comes down hard on Divac and Ranadive, who have been awful but I'd argue the Pels have been far worse and are wasting the prime years of a legit top 3 player in the league and a once in a generation big man.

Doesn't he have like 4 more years on his contract? He's virtually untouchable right now.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I don't see the correlation between him wanting out, with the number of years on his contract.

We've seen players force themselves out of situations far better than the Pelicans are in right now, with multiple years on their contracts

He's already requesting one on my fantasy team. Apparently he doesn't like losing. Pfft.

oh, whoops. i thought the question was whether they'd think to trade him. not whether he asks out.

i guess he could force himself out. he does have a good chance to build a nice young core, though, with him, hield, and their pick this year.

He would become very unpopular by doing this, hence I can't imagine him forcing a trade from New Orleans.

I think it's likely that he's going to stick around for the next 4 years honouring his current contract before joining a new team in free agency.

He won't be the first and certainly not the last.
4 years is a long time to spend in the lotteryland instead of competing for the title

I signed on to CB to bring up this very topic, so TP to the OP.

I've decided that I don't think it's this year. I think management has one more opportunity to say to him, "Look, everybody's hurt, we're going to get a huge draft pick, please just stick it out. If you are still unhappy next year, we'll trade you by Feb, 2018." It gives him a bit of an "out" on the PR side (not that PR is that big a deal) and he'll still have plenty of time on his contract.

But we can dream, can't we?

Danny: Ring-Ring
Dell: Oh hey Danny. How's it going?
Danny: Good ... Good, Dell. Just callin' to see how you were doing?
Dell: Good.
Awkward Silence
Danny: Since I've got you on the phone ...
Dell: We aren't listening to trade offers for Davis.
Danny: Yeah. Yeah. I know. But hey, I was thinking about throwing an offer at Vlade for Demarcus. Just wanted to get your thoughts. I'm thinking 2017 Nets 1st, 2018 Nets 1st, Johnson, Rozier, and Brown. Do you think he'd be interested?
Dell: Wow. That's quite the offer. If the Kings weren't the Kings, that might be a fast rebuild.
Danny: Yeah. Yeah. If only there was another team ready to trade a star Kentucky Big for a fast rebuild.
Dell: Heh. Bye Danny.

More like this:

Phone rings

Dell: Hello?
Danny: Hey, Dell, it's Danny! I just wanted...
Click
Danny: Hello? Hello? Anyone there?

Purely hypothetical, but if that happens, then New Orleans will want to do a complete rebuild which means Asik is also out in the trade and maybe Hill (though Hill is young enough).

So I think this would be a reasonable trade given that scenario.

Davis, Asik

for

Johnson, Zeller, Brown, Young, BOS 17, BKN 18, MEM/BOS 19 (lotto protected)

So post trade with 2 open roster spots

PG - Thomas, Rozier, Jackson
SG - Bradley, Smart
SF - Crowder, Green, Jerekbo
PF - Davis, Olynyk, Mickey
C - Horford, Asik

Boston is obviously all in using all major assets, but that team would be a real threat to Cleveland and fills in almost every major hole.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - Noah, G. Wallace, Melo,
Deep Bench -

Top five player in the NBA, maybe the best, under contract for five more years, including this season, these are they guys General Managers pray for. I'd bet even if Davis demanded a trade, his displeasure would garner little response from the Pelicans front office.

The only chance he leaves is if New Orleans chooses to completely blow it up and get absolutely max value for Davis in his prime. They could ask form Smart-Brown-Both Brooklyn picks and I'd do it, Davis is that level of player. Though they could get a better offer from another team potentially.

Meaning, he's probably not going anywhere. Demarcus on the other hand...

Hopefully, soon. It'd be a shame to see him waste the bulk of his prime toiling around for that backwater of a franchise.

Although, if they get that #1 pick, the turnaround could certainly start accelerating.
