Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe said he wouldn't be surprised if the Celtics made an offer to restricted free agent Nerlens Noel (knee) next summer.
Washburn added that the Celtics "have long admired Noel," and they love the idea of pairing him with Al Horford. It's also possible that the Celtics try to make a deal for Noel during the season and we know they have the assets to get something done, but it's worth noting that several others teams, including the Raptors, could pursue him as well. Nov. 7 - 10:10 am et

From the boston globe and yahoo.  Nothing new here really..  A reporter reporting that he w ouldn't  be surprised but at least adds that the celtics have long admired him and love the idea of pairing him with Horford.

Why not just make a deal Danny?  I'm all for letting our guys develop but eventually we really are going to run out of room.

My opinion the C's defense has been bad. Particularly our interior.  A rumor comes out to either light a fire under these guys or there is some credence to it.

Im not sure if this is a real rumor or just Washburn thinking out loud.

Our defense and interrior play has sucked. We have been linked to Noel in the past. If he reports this rumor Cs fans will gladly click away as it makes sense.

He wont lose any credibility if nothing happens because the Noel-Celtics link has been so firmly established over the years.

I also think the celtics would much rather a better player like Love or Durant or someone like htat. The issue is we aren't getting those guys most likely. As far as superstars around the league those guys just aren't available.  Westbrook isn't either.

Why not make a move where we can consolidate a bit?

We can sign him outright in teh offseason we are going to be letting players walk to do that regardless.

It depends on the price I guess.

Yeah that's why i put it here and not the rumor section.  It's from the boston globe and him just reporting.  his opinion in parts of it.

If you look at it logically though Danny isn't stupid. He can just offer him a contract this offseason if we want him and pick and choose who we let walk.  Amir, Jerebko etc to make room for our draft picks as well.  It depends if we want him.  I wouldn't mind consolidating a bit if the price is right.

If we trade for him we get rights on hiim i believe where we can outbid before another team trades for him.

I wouldnt give up much the more i think about it.  But i would think about making a decent offer.

Not a big fan of Washburn though.  These guys do just seem to report whatever at any given time.

We can just let guys walk, bring guys in from overseas or draft picks. Or leave guys overseas etc and bring in our draft picks.  d-league again although it is  going to start getting  a bit ridiculous if we aren't a championship team and are losing players.

When the patriots do it its ok because they have tom brady.  We do it and aren't winning championships its a bit eh.....

yeah trading for him makes him a restricted free agent which makes it really hard for teams to sign him away from us. I think they have to offer like 2 or 3 year deals and we always have the right to match.

Something like that.

Also wed get the obvious benefit of having him play for us this year.

Lots of teams rightly have interest in Noel. 76ers will likely cash in on him before the deadline.  It still is probably too soon to do anything.

meh for a guy that has given a soft trade demand, isn't showing up at his team's games or facilities (but coming to the stadium for concerts) and is rehabbing in a different part of the country, the lack of rumors would seem to indicate it is a pretty cool trade market for Noel at the moment. Maybe that changes when he gets healthy, although 76ers fans are really really doubtful he will ever suit up for the 76ers again.

Smart is shooting more efficient, if he can average 14 a game this year, than Rozier is not catching up with that. Smart will be an all star if that happens.

So offer Rozier for Noel. Would even consider adding a 1st round pick. That's better than what Toronto is offering, which is pure poo poo.

He would really help us on issues we are struggling with at the moment.

And I think you could get him for fairly cheap compared to what he would've cost a couple of years ago.

I ultimately think Danny and Brad will first give KO the chance to win the starting spot, but if he doesn't, I could easily see a trade for Noel. He better hurry up, though, because I'm afraid someone else could snatch him up first. I'm not really worried about the Raptors, because it makes no sense for them to trade for him when they're almost certainly not going to retain him as a backup to JV this summer. Phoenix is a team where I could see him really shining, though I don't know if they have real interest in him or not.

I get the whole Deandre jordan thing where we get him to go next to horford with what we have we have a real shot.  I just dont think we are that good where we should be giving up guys like smart, brown or bradley to do that.  I made that post the other day noone commented on me thinking out loud.  But i really would just keep building this.  I would not go all in on anyone not named durant or love or guys like that and even them i wouldnt sell everything for.

I wouldnt mind making a trade for noel and taking a s hot though he might do really well.

With Jordan he's a legit center and we'd have that anchor.  We'd also still have picks coming up and a couple guys.  But I don't know.  I'm not a huge fan of that.

You've finally came around to the light!!  :P Just kidding, but I agree with you. I'd give up Rozier and the Memphis pick for Noel easily, and I think that's a better offer than either of the proposed Toronto offers of Joseph or Ross and a very late first.

Rozier + memphis pick for Noel equals done deal.

I'd even possibly swap other players to maybe clear out some room.   Y ab and Zizic are not going to be overseas forever.  Plus we are drafting next year. I dont think this matters too much.  We can just cut guys.

I am now officially Antoine Walker on this board as well I just noticed. 4000 posts must have done it.
