I miss guys like Vitaly Potapenko and Danny Fortson. We need at least ONE genuine banger.
Who would be one you would like. I wanted to keep Humphries.

Oh yeah. TP bud. Ditto on Hump.

Oh gosh. They're a fading breed in h NBA. Perkins might've been the last one. Bummer about that injury. Oh well.

Teams just haven't been drafting these guys. They used to be a staple of the second and late first round. Like when DA drafted Brandon Hunter. They all want skills players at every position now.

No rebounds, no rings.
Colton Iverson was supposed to be one...

Zizic looks like he'll be one.

What kind of a concussion is this??

Quote
Mike Gorman told @Toucherandrich he's been told Al Horford's concussion is "not responding" to #NBA protocols. Bad news for #Celtics.

http://twitter.com/AdamMKaufman/status/796350864604725248

I find this strange also.  What does it mean if concussion symptoms linger like this?

Concussion protocol usually means that a player has to be able to go through a series of progressions, without any side effects or difficulties.
I don't know exactly what the NBA protocol is.

However this may help everyone with an understanding.

http://www.cdc.gov/headsup/providers/return_to_activities.html
-dizzyness or headaches as they engaged in activities with more exertion.

Horford's return could have been delayed in any of these progressions.
It doesn't mean that he isn't responding, rather that he had difficulty and needs more time.
However, usually they start the progressions from the 1st phase.

Every brain is different.  All that we should care about is that Horford gets healthy and is safe, no matter the time it takes.

GET HYPED!!!!

Horford did a little more after the Celtics left yesterday, per Stevens. Called it "a good sign." Hasn't heard about today.

I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

Remember Jeff Foster on the Pacers? He made a living out of it. So did the Davis "brothers," Dale and Antonio, also on the Pacers... Definitely a dying breed.

Yeah when they say it's "not responding" it makes it sound like he's got brain damage or something.  But really does this just mean he still has headaches or something?

It means he has symptoms and they're not going away. Symptoms can vary, and headaches is just one of them.

Concussions are scary especially because there is no real rhyme or reason to them.  Some guys get knocked out cold are show no symptoms almost immediately, other guys barely get hit and can't get out of bed for weeks without ill effects.  The one thing that we do know is the more concussions you get the worse off you are and the easier they are to get, which is why the sports leagues take no chances any more.  Horford could wake up tomorrow and be fine or he could miss the entire year.  There really is no way to predict when he will be back.

Thanks for the updates.  Good to hear Al is cleared to practice.  Awesome.

Glad to help.

Here's the full quote from Brad (in typical Brad jargon) if anyone wants to read it:

Quote
Celtics coach Brad Stevens after Al Horford engaged in non-contact activities at practice: "He did some light stuff with us, so he was cleared to go through some of it. We didn't do anything contact, physical, competitive, so I don't know where that puts him in the protocol. I haven't gotten the update of what's next. But he is progressing. He's feeling a lot better." Horford, who has missed four straight games, is doubtful vs. Knicks on Friday.

So, this is concerning. This was a very shady interview full of avoidance and misdirection from Horford about his injury and status. He said he's "not at liberty to discuss a lot of things regarding his progress and symptoms." He also seems doubtful for tomorrow night, and it seems like this was a much bigger deal than was originally let on. Almost seems like KG in 2009 all over again with his knee.

This worry anyone else?

I'm fairly concerned, it's been two weeks since then and not much information as been leaked to how he got the concussion in practice

I'm not that concerned, at least regarding the silence.  Concussions are very much a day-to-day thing, so there's not much to say.  And the Celtics are a notoriously tight-lipped organization to begin with, so I'm not surprised we don't know much in the way of details.

I'm fairly certain Horford made the recent road trip, and flying with a concussion is a big no-no if you haven't shown improvement, so I'm going to guess that Horford is getting better.  Now, that could mean he's two days away for two more weeks, because that's how recovery from concussions go sometimes.  I expect him to return for the Warriors game at the earliest and the Spurs game at the latest.  If it goes longer than the Spurs, I will join everyone in the anxiety camp.

I'm worried, but he also did practice today. It was a light practice, but he did practice nonetheless.

Also, there's a Hawks fan who made a post on the Celtics reddit page, I'd encourage you guys to check out what he said: https://www.reddit.com/r/bostonceltics/comments/5d56rv/hawks_fan_with_some_insight_regarding_al_horford/

As a Hawks fan, he probably knows more about Horford than us. He basically says that Horford always tries to be extra, extra sure he's 100% ready before he returns. As long as he's fully healthy when he returns, I've gotten a bit more relaxed now.
