I know he won't be a negative as a player who will always be a guy that does what it takes to win regular season games. He did ok in the playoffs too.

But , will you have any confidence him in getting any better this year?

Has anything changed? will his FG % be better? his outside shot?

Do you see it?

I remain hopeful he will make a leap.  Minimal confidence he will make a leap.

He developed his post-ups and mid range game. Hitting 3pt over 34% will be just a gravy.

I'll say that outside of the 3-ball, Smart looks better overall on offense. His passing looks solid, his decision making looks smarter, and even his shot from mid-range doesn't look too bad, which is what I'm hoping he'll rely on more than shooting threes. Honestly I think Smart's letting it fly just because it's pre-season.

My honest hope for smart is that he can be a Tony Allen/Michael Kidd-Gilchrist type. No, Smart is NOT those exact players to a T, but why I compare him to them is because those guys are badly needed cogs on good teams even though they may never be stars. They are menaces on defense that make their team better. That's what I think Smart will end up being, and honestly, I'm pretty happy about that.

He hasn't shown me anything during the preseason that he's about to be a star but he still does a lot of things good.

Well, so much for that revamped jumpshot. I'll give it to Smart, guy wants to win but I'm honestly not affected as much by how hard he plays anymore, Rozier is making the leap... Smart may just have to accept he is a role player, or Tony Allen, you take your pick.

I have full confidence in Smart to put it together.

in this preseason alone, he's shown:
Fantastic playmaking ability
A much-improved handle and faster dribbling skills
More aggression attacking the rim
Better shot selection
Post up game
and a Much more accurate midrange shot

I'm not worried about his 3. It will get there. Right now he's thinking too much about it. Kid just needs to shoot in rhythm.
My biases, in order of fervor:
Pro:
Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Kemba, Grant Williams, Sleepy Williams, Edwards!

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

There is a lot to like about Marcus Smart. He can be a defensive stalwart and get his offense from his defense in transition baskets. I have to see him more of him in regular season games to see what improvements he has made and if he can be a triple double machine.

The beatings will continue until morale improves

Very little confidence that he'll ever be even a serviceable offensive player.

  • That's turrible
Offensively, if he can turn into a more physical/less athletic Evan Turner (mid range and all) with a decent corner three here and there, I'd be content. His defense is elite. That combined with that sort of offense would do wonders for the team.

CB's narrative:
JB actually makes 3s = "He needs to work on that"

Smart 3 for 22 = "It'll come around, I'm not worried"

If you are just focusing on three of course you won't feel great.  On the other side, he is doing seriously every other thing better.  He looks great.  He is going to be a star.

This. Now I read he sprained his ankle? Seems for a bowling ball he has a hard time staying healthy, that is worrisome.
