PS stats for all three:

Gerald Green (mind you he played 5 games)
Mins 17.4 FG% .365 3pt%(1 for 11) or .090 FT% 1.000 Reb 2 Ast 1.8 stl 0.2 TO 0.8 PPG 8.0

James Young
Mins 17 FG% .468 3pt%(6-17) .352 FT% .714 Reb 3.5 Ast 1 Stl 0.5 TO 1.2 PPG 5.5

RJ Hunter
Mins 14.2 FG% .432 3pt%(7-23) .304 FT% .769 Reb 1.4 Ast 1.5 Stl 0.8 TO 1.1 PPG 7

Both JY and RJ had a few games with limited minutes(less than 10 mins) while Green has played 10+ every outing. Obviously this is PS so take this with the most miniscule grain of salt.

All things considered my pick to get cut will be Green. I don't care how that looks, this is a business. Fact of the matter is he was very inefficient, I sure hope to god he's lighting up guys like Crowder and Smart in practice, because he had a putrid showing.

On to the guys that are feeling the pressure. I honestly think RJ has a higher ceiling than Young, and not the other way around. Young needs to assert himself more, guys don't become notable players "playing it safe" you have to take risks and see where that leads you.

They're not letting Green go.  For a variety of reasons that have already been established on these boards.

The difference is that Green has already proven he can play (and score) consistently in this league.  Hunter and Young have not.

Green has proven nothing.
He signed a minimum contract as a player on the way out.
Green isn't that far removed from averaging 16 ppg while shooting 40% from three.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Also isn't far removed from being unwanted by an inferior team.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Hunter and Young can't even be in the conversation with Gerald Green right now. They are miles apart.

Green will actually play this year. Even if Young/Hunter were to make the team they will still barely play. Green right now is probably the ceiling for either player to ever reach in their careers.
I think Young will surpass him. His Stroke has looked great this year. He is crashing the boards he is still a young pup. Hopefully DA can get something for Hunter. Your last spot is usually someone with potential and Young has the most.

The roster isn't thinning out next year.  We need roster space and Hunter and Young just aren't special enough to invest the at least 2 years and playing time into to getting them up to rotational player level.  I wouldn't mind getting rid of Bentil, Mickey, Hunter and Young and going with 1 yr guys or that one and team option deal for the final couple roster spots.

We better be blowing people out on a nightly basis if we expect to get Young, Hunter and Mickey enough floor time to develop into reliable rotational players.
