I know there's a reason he's a high lottery pick, but it's kind of amazing seeing how automatically better Jaylen is than Hunter and Young.
I mean... I guess? I've been saying he can come in and do a couple things in the NBA day one. Both Hunter and Young can't even shoot but they're supposed to be shooters.
I don't watch college much and there was a lot of rhetoric immediately after the pick how raw he was, so to me it's a surprise how NBA ready he looks. Obviously being better than Young or Hunter isn't hard, but Jaylen has impressed me regardless.
Fair enough that is true. I have been saying I think that was BS though. People have been ridiculous saying he is some project player who will hardly play.
Jaylen is so athletic and a pure slasher. He had some issues in college because his team had zero spacing and immediately in the NBA, playing with more space, an actual transition game, and better teammates, a guy like that can thrive. Also he is built already. It's proving out so far.
I also think he's helped a lot by being able to fit into a system and add on to what the team is doing vs be the guy on a bad team like most high picks do.
Also as a defender I always thought he could make an impact day one.
The area I am most impressed with so far beyond my expectations is play making, where you can see him already making some nice reads and passing when the defense focuses on him. The play to Mickey to close the game tonight is a perfect example. I didn't expect that so soon.
If he works on his ball handling and jumper this is a guy you can even play at the 2. Pretty crazy.
