Brown just either saved or started Mickeys career with that spectacular fast break pass.

I know there's a reason he's a high lottery pick, but it's kind of amazing seeing how automatically better Jaylen is than Hunter and Young.

I mean... I guess?  I've been saying he can come in and do a couple things in the NBA day one.  Both Hunter and Young can't even shoot but they're supposed to be shooters.
I don't watch college much and there was a lot of rhetoric immediately after the pick how raw he was, so to me it's a surprise how NBA ready he looks. Obviously being better than Young or Hunter isn't hard, but Jaylen has impressed me regardless.

Fair enough that is true.  I have been saying I think that was BS though.  People have been ridiculous saying he is some project player who will hardly play.

Jaylen is so athletic and a pure slasher.  He had some issues in college because his team had zero spacing and immediately in the NBA, playing with more space, an actual transition game, and better teammates, a guy like that can thrive.  Also he is built already.  It's proving out so far.

I also think he's helped a lot by being able to fit into a system and add on to what the team is doing vs be the guy on a bad team like most high picks do.

Also as a defender I always thought he could make an impact day one.

The area I am most impressed with so far beyond my expectations is play making, where you can see him already making some nice reads and passing when the defense focuses on him.  The play to Mickey to close the game tonight is a perfect example.  I didn't expect that so soon.

If he works on his ball handling and jumper this is a guy you can even play at the 2.  Pretty crazy.

If we had played Brown more .....he gets better by the quarter .

He is so active on offense.

He wants to make a play every time......keep the pressure on the other team ....as they have nobody to cover him really

Based on Jaylen's scouting reports I expected less quickness, a substantially worse handle, terrible awareness and terrible finishing and shooting. I thought he would be straight line explosive and thats it. Im so impressed with his quickness, his handle, and what appears to be a solid feel for the game. The finishing has even started to look better this preseason.

Since draft night Brown has exceeded my expectations.

Brown is just vicious

You can tell  he is 9 or 9.5  out of 10 in quickness.  Just so much quicker than most other players

Mickey has bumped up strength but unfortunately it looks like it has affected his quickness a tad.   Hopefully he can keep working on his footwork at this stage.

I know he got burnt a little by Vazquez by that one play but he was in no mans land after the switch.  And was trying to be in the position to bother a jump shot or if not chase him to the basket.   Not an easy task

I think instead trying to do too much, he just needs to let Vazquez shoot at that point, unless he knows someone is going to help on the weakside.

Yeah, I've noticed that as well. His foot speed, agility, and explosiveness are just off the charts. He can switch directions so fast. It's the same thing with Gerald Green. People expect huge leapers when you say athleticism, but it's just as much about quickness and agility as anything.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Dude. Brown and Green together will make for some GREAT highlight reel plays this season.

he has, however, looked less than what he was billed as on defense. He's missed quite a few assignments which have lead to what I'm now going to term the James Young Back Door Cut and easy baskets for the opposing team.

Better than expected on offense, worse than expected on defense--especially team defense.
My biases, in order of fervor:
Pro:
Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Kemba, Grant Williams, Sleepy Williams, Edwards!

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

He definitely gets out of position in the way you are describing but also can make some nice steals and can recover really well and challenge shots.  I think those are rookie mistakes that will get ironed out as the season goes along here.

Funny how it works out. He could've easily been Justise Winslow if Jordan hadn't been so stupidly stubborn.
