What does Nader really want?

I haven't seen anyone say it but I believe the reason we gave Bentil his contract is because we won't be broken up about losing him, maybe they saw something in Nader and don't want to give him a contract and lose him because of a numbers crunch. Bentil's contract sounds like Hollands, a little money to take a look at camp or trade while not costing much to drop.



They could also just like Bentil. Why wasn't he at the rookie photoshoot? I'm probably wrong because I'm not checking but I don't remember Colton nor Thornton doing the photoshoot either.

Is it money or the fastest route to an NBA roster?

I can understand why anyone would not want to play a season in the D league at 25,000/yr.  C's will make the required tender offer by Sept 6.  If Nader rejects the offer, C's maintain NBA rights for a year.  I believe then that Nader has the option to sign a Euro contract at that point rather than playing in Maine.   Is this correct?  If that is correct, it seems like a win-win to me. C's have effectively stashed him and he is playing against better competition than D league and getting paid.

His agent is quoted as saying he is a NBA player now.  If he accepts the offer, then gets waived in camp, he can go to Maine (or any other D league team that would sign him to a D league contract), and be eligible to be called up by any NBA team if he is killing the D league.  His agent seems to be threatening this second approach.

I think approach #1 maybe more prudent.  Wouldn't you rather play in Europe for 500,000 than ride the bench in the NBA for 500,000?

The NBA will not have a serious minor league until these guys can make more money than that.

Bentil's deal is only guarenteed for $250,000 which means they can cut him and add him to the D-League team and he'd still make a good chunk of money. I'm not clear on whether the C's would still own his rights going forward or if he'd be a straight-up, D-League free agent. But that's probably the reason the C's gave Bentil a deal after an underwhelming summerleague. One mor shot to prove something in training camp and if not, it's no problem to cut him.

yep, that's why I said they are probably more willing to cut Ben and let him go (he would be a FA), I don't know that they want that risk w/ Nader b/c they may like him more and there is only so many roster spots.

I can see it being a tough decision for both sides and I don't blame Nader for wanting IN now. Nader was our 2nd/3rd best player in SL easily, he deserves his shot too.
