I would sign him even though that we will have to cut both Hunter and Young to do so. Would be a great chance for Ray to redeem himself after he left us for Miami.

Furthermore, I don't think Ray's age is such a big issue given that his game doesn't rely on athleticism. I would even dare to bet my money on the fact that Ray is in a lot better shape (check his Instagram; pretty impressive for a 41 year old guy) than most guys in the league right now *ahem* Sully *ahem*.
Why does Ray Allen have to redeem himself? Ray Allen was 36 when he decided to leave the Celtics. He made the right move for himself. That team was done as evidenced by the blowup by Ainge. Considering his age, he wanted another ring. Nothing wrong with that considering the way the C's treaten him for the last couple of years in Boston.

I like Ray but we have a packed roster and it isn't clear to me that Ray would react well to getting benched if we feel like his defense hurts us too much.

Sounds good to me, cut James Young, then offer Ray one year vet minimum plus chance to retire as a Celtics.

Ray was a good veteran leader, besides his worst shooting season is better than the best shooter we have right now.

5-10 minutes a game with rest on back to back should do it.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Hell yeah. Just having him in the locker room and his knowledge on shooting would be priceless for our young core. Our young guys already have a great work ethic and having Ray around in their ear for one or two years would be an amazing addition to the locker room.

This guy was a top 3 player on the last Celtic championship team and has one of the greatest worth ethics of all time and is one of the greatest shooters of all time.

Sign me up.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'd bring him on as a coach. At his age he won't produce consistently.

I'd be shocked if he came here as a coach.  Why would he want to do that?  He is only coming back as a player to get one more payday with all the bloating contracts being given out this off-season to mediocre players.

Folks you have to think about motivations for these guys, not just what we would or would not want for the C's.

Dont get on me buddy, if we want to talk about what he wants then why not say the truth. The guy wants the attention. He has done this each of the last two off seasons now.

It was business for the Celtics. It was personal against the celts when he left. That's fine but to me the celts can take it personally and say go play or coach for Miami are former rival. No thanks, Ray.

Rondo tearing his ACL expedited the blow up point, and that wasn't predictable. Also, had Ray stayed, the team would have had the mid-level exception to use for a better backup big. In any case, he did what was best for him. What also bothered many fans was his going on and on about it in interview after interview for the next 2 years. His former teammates and coach didn't do that, they moved on.

No thanks. Go to the Bucks, Judas.  That's the only green you should wear.

He should never be allowed to wear Celtic Green again.

Same - barf.

Is this real?

Can Ray even offer anything as an actual on-court contributor at this point?

I mean, sure, I bet his shooting stroke is a sweet as ever, but that doesn't make you an NBA player.  Lots of 40 y.o. dudes at the local YMCA can probably knock down open threes.  Ray couldn't guard anyone by the time he retired, that isn't going to change a couple years later.

I moved on from his betrayal, and just remember him for the good times, but let's leave those in the past where they belong.

As mentioned in other threads, we are already carrying four players above the roster limit.

No space for Ray Allen.
