No thanks. Go to the Bucks, Judas.  That's the only green you should wear.

He should never be allowed to wear Celtic Green again.

if he chooses us, it will help the fanbase forgive him when he bolted for Miami. He can serve nicely as a mentor to the younger players, hell I would LOVE it if Smart and Brown learns to shoot from Ray Ray.
Completely agree with the first part.  That would be awesome.  But he's not going to teach anyone how to shoot.

Why?
Because it can't really happen.  He's a great shooter but not a shooting coach.  He can show his routine but it's not going to improve a horrible shooter very much.  Players can be good influences but they aren't coaches.

However, if nothing else, he can be counted on in the final minute of tight games to not shy away from taking the "Big Shot" and also help players like Smart, Brown and others with their shooting technique as a "player-coach" of sorts.

This, to me, would be the biggest reason to sign Ray Allen.  It's like adding another coach who specializes in shooting.  The effect he could have on guys like Marcus Smart, Jalen Brown, RJ Hunter if he stays, even Bradley, Crowder, Olynyk, Thomas, etc, etc, etc.

But I'm kind of torn here.  I was always a Ray Allen fan, back to UConn.  I was pumped when we traded for him.  When he left for the Heat I was p---ed.  If he came back now to help the next generation, I could regain my love and respect for Jesus Shuttlesworth.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this thread, because I have trouble believing this would actually happen.  But I'm just going to take a brief moment to reiterate that Ray Allen is A-Ok in my book and at no point have I ever seen him as a "traitor" for leaving.  I've already shared this opinion dozens of times over the years.  He's the bullet points:

-Our run was as a true contender was over and anyone who wasn't in complete denial could see it.  It was only a matter of time before they blew it up.  It happened a year later when the team FINALLY went into re-build mode (long overdue), Doc left and we traded away KG and Pierce.

-We had been trying to trade him pretty much every single year going back to his first season with us.  In-fact, we literally traded him at one point, but the deal fell apart.  We had no loyalty to him.

- He had been benched in favor of an unproven shooting guard.  His role on the team wasn't even well-defined at that point.

- There had been rumblings that he simply didn't get along with Rondo - something that Ray should be a little bit vindicated for now that we've seen how Rondo has done over the past few years on three different teams.

- I never saw Miami as our rivals.   I can see how you could call LeBron our rival, but even that I saw more of an inevitability of us being in the same conference than a true rivalry.

- There's no denying that he picked the best possible place for him if he wanted to contribute to a winner.   He hit arguably the greatest three point shot in the history of the NBA Finals.  He won a title.  Good for him.

I have nothing but love for Ray.  I wish him the best whatever he decides to do.

I hope this never happens.

Quote
Some of you folks are still bitter about how he left and that he signed with the Heat.

But a few things to consider  1.  Rondo made things uncomfortable between them and for everyone else.   Someone should have forced them to reconcile but nobody did. Which is a pity

2.  There were constant trade rumors swirling around Ray Allen.  He prob didn't appreciate it.  One reason could have been due to the issue with Rondo. And the org was more on moving fwd with Rondo  (which made sense, especially financially)

3. The heat apparently pushed hard for him to join. And he wanted to to win another ring. What Ray Allen is, is a winner.   i personally don't like that he went to the Heat and truly believe he didn't do it intentional to get back at the Celts org.  Just happened to be the team that gave him the best chance to get another ring.

4.  He  contributed so much to the community.  Ray Allen foundation this, Ray allen foundation that.  He gave back to the community like very few players are able to.  It's not just about donating money

5.  He could easily go and sign with the Cavs or GSW or Spurs but is choosing between Bucks or Celtics.  It's up to which team wants him more

6. Having a Ray Allen  (even though he plays only like 10 mins a game , or every other game) could make a difference between getting past the 1st round or not.    I'm sure he is still in tremendous condition and still shoot better than 80 percent of the players in the league

Let him go elsewhere, nice rationalizations.

Watch him comeback . I bet he prefers living in Boston vs Milwaukee any day of the week

Would LOVE this if he came back to BOS.

Loved what he did here as a key piece in our Banner 17 run, and as we start to climb back into contention he'd help us I'm sure.

He didn't leave under the best of circumstances but it's all good in my book. I forgave him.

I'm sure he has PLENTY of threes left in his game.

Once a Celtic always one.

bring back Ray and Perk, trade for KG and Pierce.   Did they expand the max roster limit to 30 this year?  Let's do it.

Lol nice, but how will we fet Rajon back from Chicago?

He's 41.  Are teams even interested?  And why would he consider non-contenders?  Seems doubtful he's looking for money -- too OCD to have not managed his finances well.

Even if he's over the hill, how can you not guard Ray freakin Allen?

Just to help spread the floor for IT, I'd take him.

He absolutely cannot teach Smart and Brown how to shoot. However I do think if he came back his work ethic and routing could really leave an impression on Smart and Brown. Could definitely be valuable for them to see what it takes and see a 41 year old who is one of the greatest shooters of all time still putting in all those carefully constructed hours.

Now of course this would mean Ray would have to still be doing his meticulous routine at 41.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
As many others have stated, I don't care if he does or doesn't come back.

But I would like him to come back, and I would like Ainge to make a push to bring Pierce back, so we can at least have those two players off the bench as clutch shooters, and mentors.

Ray left a bittersweet taste in my mouth, and in my soul as a die hard Celtics fan, but I can understand. As Triboy mentioned, we tried trading him multiple times, and even Ray believed he was literally traded for OJ freaking Mayo, who turned out to be another useless player who eventually even lost sight of his own darn self.

I always felt like Rondo, and Ray never really clicked chemistry wise. I always felt like Rondo gave Pierce/Garnett far more touches, and never looked out for Ray.

If there was ever any player who sacrificed the most, it was Ray Allen. He was literally the go to scorer, and 3pt shooting Jesus at one point, and was reduced to a player coming off screens, and shooting 3's.

So I can understand why he left, and probably why he felt spited, and in return felt the need to do the same back to Ainge. It definitely left a scorching mark in all of our hearts indicatively, but we have to learn to move on, and let bygones be bygones. If Ray does come here, I would certainly love for him to mentor our young players.

If anything, Ray is definitely one of the most disciplined and astute players of his time in terms of maxing out his work outs and drills. This guy hasn't eaten a burger in over 13 years, now that is dietary dedication at its finest.

Bring him back, and bring back THE TRUTH!

Im not sure that work ethic is something that Smart and Brown need to improve.  Ive not seen anything to inficate that either of those two guys is lacking in that regard.

Plus we have Bradley, Crowder, Thomas, Amir - i dont think there are many in the nba who work harder then those guys.

If Ray offered anything it would be shooting off the bench and hopefully shooting lessons for the kids.  Im not sure Smart could learn much as a shooter, but i do think guys like Brown, Rozier and Jackson have a lot of chance to improve as shooters.

Perhaps even some of the bigs like Mickey and Olynyk could improve their shooting consistemcy with some pointers from perhaps the best there ever was.
