Do we pay IT the $20+million per year he'll probably command in free agency?

Yes, he's earned it.

No, some team will over pay for him even if he'll be 29 years old

I'd give him something like 4 years x $15 million but $20x4 years is too much

Trade him and get something for him. If so, probably has to be this season or next offseason?

100% walk or trade.  Not paying a below the rim wing 20mil plus.
Why?

If he's still the best option at PG when his contract is up, why shouldn't the Celtics resign him?

For me it boils down to if we can sign or trade for a star by next offseason combined with 1 of young players like Brown becoming a rising star.  If so maybe Thomas and Horford can take a little more of a backseat as they age while we remain very competitive.  Next offseason ma be the last time for a while with a big cap increase and the chance to sign a star.

If that doesn't happen I'm afraid we'll turn into the Hawks of the last 5 to 10 years good but never good enough, and at least time to think about trading Crowder, Bradley, and Thomas.
