Do we pay Isaiah $20+million or let him walk in 2018?

Not this upcoming season, but the 2017/18 season will be IT's last season under this insanely good value contract.
He'll also be 29 years old and we'll have some serious thinking to do.
He's going to command some pretty serious money if he keeps up his play (or gets even better, which he may well do).
We should probably assume he'll be getting offers of $20 million+ over 2-4 years and we'll still have Horford locked up for 2 more years.

Assuming we don't draft a PG who becomes better than IT over the next two years, and he's healthy and playing like he is now, do we give him the monster pay day or let him walk?

I'd be fine signing him to a big contract. If we add another max player in free agency next year, I suspect we will stay over the cap and pay money to keep our players rather than attempting to add ones in free agency.

If Smart/Rozier improve and take the starting job I think we will move on from IT. If we can add Westbrook I think IT is gone.

agreed in the sense I don't think a team should tie up that much money on someone who's a third banana (at best if not fourth) on a top team.  Defensive liability as well as a mediocre point guard (his passing ability is suspect at best). 

The only backlash I see is that he's being touted as the face of the franchise and supposedly recruiting players to come to Boston.  Shipping him out could have a very negative impact in that regard.  That would be my only hesitancy to trade him.

It's come to the point where I believe in IT and have accepted him as the current face of our franchise. He embodies our current culture, which is a team that plays with the most heart.

Some people have brought up that they'd rather have Westbrook and it's hard to fault them. Id love to have Russell on this team. But I wonder if there's some way IT and Russell could coexist on the floor.

In a vacuum I do not like the idea of paying him the huge cash it will take to keep him, but that doesnt mean it will be a bad idea. The way our roster looks will really have an effect on this. Too early to tell.

It's a tough question.  I think there's a good chance he will still be a very valuable player at age 29 and 30.  Age 31-33 is a big question mark for me.  I think he'll probably be more of a reserve player at that point.

I like Smith a little more. Both are really talented, but Smith looks like he has the greater foot speed.

Fultz is a better defender , 6'4 plus long wingspan  (Smith does not) and better passer.    Smith  (6'1-6'2) is the more flashy, explosive of the two but Fultz can get to the basket and finish like a Shaun Livingstone. Good athlete, long

But we will see.  Either of these two plus Frank Ntilikina (Rondo like wingspan at 6'5) are considered top calibre pg (all top 5 type talents)

I get where CB Danny is going with this topic, but asking this question now is both semi- offensive and counterproductive. Either he becomes a smarter modern as-yet-unseen iverson, or he tops out at VERY well paid. Either way, we have two years of bliss, pure bliss, to watch this guy absolutely shred people for next to nothing. Put him in a trade for Anthony Davis (as in, right now), or just let the crazy Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.er play basketball. I would rather IT be traded before Avery, Marcus, or Terry.  I think in 2 years Rozier will be more than ready to replace most of what IT gives us offensively.  And Terry has the great defense and rebounding.  I would really like to keep these 3 defensive players.

Trade IT for the right deal sometime over the next 2 years.  The world will get over the fact that he was once the face of the franchise.
