I really liked Dragan Bender as a prospect. But I am warming up to Jaylen Brown as our top selection.
1. He has an NBA-ready body -today-. Which is a big pro in his favor.
2. He has an aggressive mindset. He doesn't shy away from taking charge and attacking the basket. [That led to him living at the free throw line during SL].
3. Brown has athleticism that you can't teach. You can see that he has it at an elite level, and there were very few Celtics that you can say had that same level of athleticism.
To me, Brown appears to be very similar to Jeff Green but more aggressive. Green always had the talent, but he just never had the mindset to 'take charge' of games. I don't think that will be a problem for Brown.
So if Brown hits his ceiling, the sky is the limit. Of course he has weaknesses he needs to improve upon -- shooting, handle, finishing, shot selection. But once he does, he could become a very special player. Which is exactly what we need. The only question is how long will it take for Brown to put it all together, and can he reach his admittedly very high ceiling.
