Why on earth would New Orleans move Davis when they just signed him?
There's less than zero chance Davis ends up in Boston. Ever.
Ever Is a strong word. He might have dreamed of being a celtic for all we know.
It helps that the Pels are a dumpster fire. They just never seem to make the right moves. If they hadn't gotten lucky (?) and won the lottery for Davis they'd have literally nothing.
Davis is under contract until the 2020-2021 season, when he is 28, but that last year is a player option. The Pels will try to build a team around him for the next few years. They struck out this year. I see them making their typically bad moves and sucking up their cap space with mediocre guys like Cleveland did during Lebron's first tenure there.
Fast-forward a few seasons.
The player option in '20-'21 is for $27M. The cap by then will offer a far higher annual salary, so he will almost certainly opt out. He stands to make a ton more money even from a team that doesn't have his bird rights.
So that 2019-2020 season is key. If the Pels have failed to put a good team around him by then I could see him getting disgruntled and threatening to leave. They might cut their losses and trade him for a king's ransom.
So no, it's not beyond the realm of possibility at all to land Davis, just not right now. By 2020 we might be a contender, and an even more desirable destination for him.
