We would more than likely have to move Jaylen to get Chicago to even consider moving Butler imo.   He is their franchise player.  I also think the Bulls are a pretty loyal bunch if they have a talent like Butler.  I'm guessing they are going to try to build around him.  I don't see Butler necessarily forcing a deal any time soon either.  He seems more like KG almost untouchable there.

It doesn't add up overly.   Rondo and Wade are there on short term deals to help hold the line imo.

Here is Deveney on CSNNE.

Blakely had his story on no deal blocked on CSNNE  around 4 pm. Apparently mixed signals in the mainstream media. Mannix said nothing "at the moment." Then later said could happen this weekend.

Consensus is something big may happen by weekend. It isn't clear what's holding things up right now. Are they going after Cousins? Is Doc trying to work Gay into a 3 way deal? The issue of a draft pick was apparently settled. Doc will get Nets18, though I've heard that could change, too. Celts could get Griffin w/o pick. Maybe in a 3 way.

They are keeping things close to the vest, mindful of what happened a few years back when media leaks were used by Stern to stop a deal.

Does this do anything regarding a possible clippers deal? Is it them making space or something?

Marble guarantees Friday night. So they'd have to waive him before then. Might signal making room for a trade. Could also just be making room for their Felton signing.

Just saving luxury tax dollars.  They're right up at the tax line, and signing Felton would have put them over.  Now they should be about $400k under the line.  If they stick at 14 roster spots for now, they can add player 15 later in the season and avoid the tax.

If they believed a trade with the Celtics was imminent, this is probably not a move they would have made. (Probably, because many Blake trade concepts would result in them taking on less salary this season).
Couldn't the trade be about creating a roster spot which would be beneficial to a trade? It seems like it was either done with a trade in mind or as the last move to finalize their roster.

It could, sure.  But more likely they found someone who would take Wilcox and give something back, but they could only do so until tonight/tomorrow when the non-guaranteed contract ceased to exist.  The Clippers paid a $20 million luxury tax bill last year and are in the repeater level.  My guess is that Rivers has been told to avoid it this year.

Bare-bones trade idea. I need you to supply the muscle, tendons, and ligaments to get this moving.

Celtics receive Griffin
Clippers receive Bradley, Butler
Bulls receive Crowder, Reddick

I feel like the Clippers would seriously consider this deal. Bradley is an upgrade to Reddick defensively (and his shooting may go up with Paul getting him looks). Butler gives them the roster flexibility to play small or big and to defend all 5 of the Warriors lineup-of-death. Admittedly, they would still need a starting solid 4, but the core of Paul-Bradley-Butler-Jordan would contend better than Paul-Reddick-Griffin-Jordan.

I think the Bulls look at this trade too. Reddick gives them much needed shooting next to Rondo and Wade. Crowder provides them with a 3-and-D wing that doesn't need the ball as much as Butler. On top of that, I think the Bulls' stingy ownership would really appreciate Crowder's contract.

It makes a lot of sense for both the Clippers and the Bulls to send Gibson to the Clippers also. Hoiberg's system relies on shooting, but Gibson can't. On top of that, it seems like McDermott, Mirotic, Crowder, and especially Portis are ready to take his minutes.

I think our draft picks would have to grease the wheels for the Bulls to get this done. What do you think?

Danny probably keeps moving the goal line.

I'm 99% sure it's Anthony Davis. Danny is a genius.

Last years deadline, sources were saying Okafor, but it was AD all along. Danny has been leaking rumors through a Lexus car salesman, a 15 year old high school  boy, "insiders" who are actually just couch potatoes clicking incessantly on the ESPN trade machine. Every star that is attainable except 1 has been mentioned through a rumor by these insiders. Through the process of elimination it's Davis.

Danny never even wanted KD, his plan was to keep fans interested, confused and anxious for the REAL JULY 4,which is actually July 15TH. Independence Day will be moved  to July 15th once we get AD who is >>>>>> KD

Danny is a genius. Bravo

And if that is how it goes down, I will buy you a beer next time you are in NYC. Assuming you are 21+. And I'll make that champagne if only one Nets pick is involved.

This is actually kind of irritating to watch spread live.

Idiot on RealGm makes up a rumor... some twitter trolls pile on pretending to have similar information... some obscure blog runs with it... a slightly bigger blog runs with that... some garbage media types who don't vet their sources run with it... other media types quote the garbage media types... suddenly it's appearing on CelticsBlog, Yahoo, Sporting News, etc.   Meanwhile, the idiot who made up the rumor is cackling his head off.   Trust me, I get it... I once made up something that ended up on Good Morning America.  But when you're not in on the joke, it's annoying to watch in real-time.

ANyways, a trade for Blake makes some sense.  Bill Simmons has been calling this the wildcard trade for months.  I'm not surprised this is the fake rumor people are running with.   I wouldn't be entirely shocked if something actually happened.

I wonder how much your thoughts would change if this were the Sixers.  You would go on and on about how Hinkie's plan of tanking/accumulating picks was ingenious.

BTW...Mannix just chimed in so...yeah
There's a difference between Steve Bulpett saying, "According to my sources, the player Danny Ainge was trying to acquire at the deadline was Jahlil Okafor"...

And... "I hear we are going to make a big move... i read it on a website that got it from a blog that got it from a smaller blog that got it from a twitter account that got it from some troll on a realGM forum who made it up as a joke"

No, the difference is that you're overly optimistic on anything Sixers related, even citing Sixers blogs as souces, yet are pessimistic on everything involving the Celtics. Everyone sees it, man. You're a hypocrite in what you choose to believe.
Yeah ok.  If you say so, Ed.

I just tend to give more credit to someone like Steve Bulpett when he claims he has a direct source that tells him something... over some 16 year old fanboy high schooler from Rhode Island who tweets that his "sources" tell him the Celtics are about to sign Durant.

Some of us have talked about this before.   What makes a "rumor" a "real rumor" verses a "fake rumor".  I guess it's a fine line.  The Steve Bulpett's, Marc Stein and Woj's of the world might be making stuff up entirely.  A lot of the info is fed from other orgs.  Maybe some of it is completely fabricated.   Maybe they are no different than the 16 year old Celtic fanboy sitting on his parent's couch making up stuff on RealGm.   Maybe both rumors deserve the same amount of respect.  Maybe both rumors deserve no respect.   It's been debated before.  I guess it will be debated again.

Fwiw, Bulpett says:  "Sources indicate the Celtics are very much open to major moves, but while situations certainly remain fluid and they have expressed interest in Blake Griffin and Russell Westbrook in the past, there have been no discussions regarding those players in quite some time."

That's not to say those trades will not still happen.  That's the thing about this league... we can all make educated guesses about which stars might be available.  It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to look at the Bucks roster, see they have multiple SF's and determine they might be open to moving one of Giannis, Parker or Middleton.   Blake's problems have been well documented.  Same with Cousins.  It isn't a massive stretch to imagine one of them being moved.   Everyone knows Philly at some point will move one of those bigs... so I'm sure we'll continue to see rumors about it.  Just like everyone knows Boston is overloaded with redundant players and doesn't have enough roster spots to fit all of them.   You watch Rozier playing well in Summer league and it's not a leap to imagine them moving Marcus Smart for help at a weaker position.

So I guess you just have to ask what is a rumor.  If you think every rumor regardless of who makes it up deserves the same amount of attention, I don't blame anyone for getting very excited about this weekend.  Personally, I expected nothing to happen until greece666 backed up this rumor.  Now I'm on board.

That's great, but this is from Deveny and now Mannix. Don't you think that's a far cry from random bloggers? The funny thing is that you think they're getting this from the same bloggers you ridicule. Don't you think it's much more likely that they're obtaining this from legitimate enough sources that they feel the need the pass this on?

Imagine if this were the thread title...
Sporting News: Sixers getting Griffin, will make major deal soon

You would be unbearable spewing your pro-Hinkie propaganda
those guys are saying the same thing - neither Westbrook or griffin is available and no discussions are happening.  Nobody legitimate has backed up this thing.  Whatever.

There's no trade happening. Some of u are setting timers to every new tweet that comes out waiting like a crack head impatiently waiting for his dealer to call or text him back. Its OK to live your life n see what happens.
