These dunks by Griffin are insane.  I purposely looked for a playoff matchup to see how he performs in the playoffs.  He doesn't seem like a great defender but his sheer strength and freakishness is ridiculous. Plus he's a good passer.

I love the idea of a Griffin/Horford front court.  Their games are so versatile yet so different.  It could work beautifully.

We need Griffin to re-up for a few years but I agree.  Spacing with that team would be perfect.

I don't think we can get him to re-up.  The cap goes up a lot again next season.  It makes sense for him to wait.  We're going to have to take a chance.  But yeah, I'm excited about that spacing and scoring.

Interesting piece written back at the trade deadline this past February related to Griffin. They said 5 out of 10 chance he is traded in the summertime.

http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2016/2/15/11001052/blake-griffin-trade-rumors-la-clippers-nba-2016

Interesting that 2 of 3 big men we have been going after and supposedly available in trades are players who had off the field incidents that demonstrated their lack of personal control. Hitting his " friend" that works for the team and breaking his hand as a result, is not the best selling point. We know Okafor's off the court problems as well. Both also had injuries that plagued them this past year. That is a big concern that the Clippers are ready to move on from him due to everything from this past year. The stats they list in that article mention their defense was better with him off the floor this past year and he only resulted in a slight increase in point production while playing.

On a different note, a healthy Griffin who does not attack the team personnel could be a huge boom to our offense and definitely balance well with Horford and a team that has a strong defense to balance his deficiencies on that end of the floor. Maybe it would help balance our team but I have always been afraid of players with bad control(fighting, partying, drug problems) off the court. I guess it is not a coincidence that those players are usually the only type's of stars that are available for a trade. Not many teams wants to trade their shiny, dependable Rolls Royces...

I guess if we can keep our picks(doubtful), taking a chance on him flourishing under Stevens is a good risk. He does have an opt out after this coming season so we need to make sure he would want to resign with us, especially if we give up the Brooklyn 2018.

Personally, I enjoy rumor threads and this is definitely news. No need to attack other for voicing their opinion or getting excited about them. A rumor is just that..a rumor and this one has been out there and tied to our team before this summer began.

What else are we going to do at this time of year?  Get excited about the MLB All Star break?

Clippers just signed Ray Felton.... Now they have CP3, JJ, Crawford, Lil' Doc + Felton as their guard rotation. Hard to see them taking back Avery in a deal.

JJ goes to Sacramento most likely. They run Jamal at the point and AB at the 2.

JJ would be crucial to making that team work. If the idea is to focus in on the CP3/DeAndre pick & roll, you need shooters that will make teams pay for cheating off of them to defend it. No way they give up one of the best shooters in the league in any deal that sends out Griffin.

IMO, that Deadmik3 guy had a .0001% chance of guessing right on this. But the Felton signing pretty much takes away any reason for LAC to take back another guard in deal.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
This is the clippers sites take on the trade just for comparison

http://clipperholics.com/2016/07/14/clippers-rumors-blake-griffin-for-rudy-gay-trade-persists/

Sounds like the writer of that article is just suffering from denial.

I am not saying he will definitely be traded, but the Clips performed very well without Griffin, he obviously is butting heads (at least a little bit) with the team/organization, and he is an expiring contract.

They should probably come to terms with his departure and be happy they can get value now rather than him possibly/likely leaving for nothing in a year.

I thought the first line was funny.  Had a big grin on my face if we actually get Griffin.  We have b een on that side of the fence and Doc has to know how we do things.  We would never lose Griffin like that and be selling him for pennies on the dollar though.

I disagree. If Reddick and Griffin are coming back to us, then the guard rotation in LAC would be fine. Beside, they need another true point guard on their roster.

I honestly doubt that there are too many people here who are convinced that the C's will get Griffin (or Cousins / Westbrook).  I think you are seeing the adrenaline flow of the off-season.  It's just fun.

Big trade probably won't happen but there's no harm in getting excited about the possibility. I'm pretty sure we'll all be able to handle it if it all turns out to be nothing other than Horford.

UNVERIFIED REPORT:

According to this guy Mike, there is an agreement:

Quote
Deadmik3™ ‏@StonewallSieve  9s9 seconds ago Watertown, MA
#Griffin to the #Celtics for Johnson, Bradley & the 2018 Brooklyn Nets pick. Details are being fine-tuned. Expect official announcement soon

Take it for what it's worth.

So it's been hours since this post and...no media announcement. Time to bury it as DEAD  ;D ::)

Exactly, I get semi excited if I buy a Powerball ticket with a jackpot over 500M and I know I am almost certainly not winning that.

But, it is fun to speculate about something you are passionate about like our team.  I wont be losing any sleep over this if this rumor becomes dormant once again and he Griffin ends up somewhere else or nowhere at all(as long as it is not the Nets, I can live with it).

Now, I did lose a slight amount of sleep when we lost out on Durant but that was a lot different as he actually met with us and we had a better chance than winning the Powerball drawing.

If this is true, I'm gonna miss Avery, and I hope Rozier makes him expendable but atleast we hold on to that pick swap this year. Bradley is also our best outside shoot, so we ultimately would get worse at the thing we are already worse at.
