When Sporting News says "soon", what exactly do they mean by that?

I'd expect to see some kind of move before the season starts, but probably a really low-level move to consolidate some assets.  Like maybe trading Young for a future 2nd or something.

We have too many players and not enough roster spots if we want to bring on the 2nd rounders.

I could still see us trading a package around a Brooklyn pick or Marcus Smart for Okafor (though I don't think either really makes sense for Philly).  I wouldn't count on us trading for another all-star, but I could see us making a move for someone like Rudy Gay or maybe something more significant before the deadline in February.  If Griffin or Westbrook gives the official word they are planning on leaving in free agency, I could see us making a move.  But with Durant choosing the Warriors, I don't think anyone is really competing with them anytime soon so I guess it just depends on how this team looks as the season progresses and whether or not it seems wise to go all-in on guys who can help you finish in 2nd place.

EDIT: Overpay. They're not getting a Brooklyn pick for Okafor, and it's doubtful they'd could even get Smart now.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

If Boston was willing to give up this much for Okafor he would already be a Celtic. Every rumor out there indicates that Okafor's value isn't anywhere close to Smart and Brooklyn pick.

I honestly want Griffin and Westbrook less and less the more this goes on. Especially if it means  parting ways with Smart or Brown.

I hope Ainge doesn't do anything too stupid here to appease the fans when we are sitting pretty good as it stands.
When did Ainge ever make a trade because of pressure from the fans? Any examples?

that's hard to say.  I think he is one of the better GM's as far as just doing what is right. Rondo, KG,Pierce were all moves that needed to be made I think.   Tony Allen not so sure.  Signing Shaq and trading Perk not so sure.  He's made popular picks at times too. Sully was that at the time. He is one of the more patient GM's out there though.

The prevailing theory is that Ainge wants to cash in all our assets though. I think he does but I would be careful with Blake and Westbrook.   We have a good young team.

I don't think so.  Makes little sense for Philly to give away Okafor for an unknown draft pick.  That's why they turned down our offers of the 2016 pick for him at the deadline.  Trading for "future assets" is what upset all the anti-Hinkies.

But I wouldn't rule out an Okafor trade happening in some form before the season starts.

I agree with everything in the first paragraph. Which is why I don't see any trade happening between the Celtics and Sixers.

If I had to guess I think they trade Noel to a team like the Suns rather than trading Okafor.

If an Okafor trade happens it will be because Collangelo's price came down, rather than Ainge's.

Just heard mike from Watertown on the radio, just my observation but he sounded very unsure of himself as expected...

Yeah it was a terrible interview. He didn't answer any of Kauf's questions, and it seemed in the middle of the interview Mike realized, "****.... I may have taken this too far."

This whole thing has been great.

Lol What were the questions and answers?

Anyone? anyone anyone?

I'm going to guarantee you that no one is giving a potential top ten pick for okafor. This draft was garbage and it is widely reported no one was willing to trade a top ten pick for him. In fact noel was worth more. I like you dude, but you're inconsistent with your takes.

I really don't like this troll. It would be bittersweet if we ended doing a blockbuster trade cause this guy would take credit.

I guess we should just do a blockbuster that isn't anything close to what he's suggesting.  8)

I don't think it makes any sense for Philly to trade Okafor for a top 10 pick, so I'll agree that's unlikely to happen.

And no, Noel wasn't worth more than Okafor.  Those "rumors" have all been refuted.  Though I wouldn't be surprised if Philly was trying to trade Noel for a top 3 pick.  Noel is on the final year of his rookie deal.

I agree.

I can basically 100% guarantee you that Boston has reached out to the Clippers about Griffin.  That's a non-story, though.  It's Ainge's job to reach out about stars.  I'm sure we reached out about Hayward.  I'm sure we reached out about Cousins.  Etc.

But I see little reason to believe we're remotely close to acquiring Blake Griffin.  I see no real reason for the Clippers to trade him unless they are concerned he'll leave in free agency.

Griffin and Westbrook are two guys who will break down over time.   They are probably going to be great for the next 5  years though.

Yep. This makes a huge difference when it comes to trade value.

Lookin' better. IT, Danny and a couple of others are in SD/LA. Griffin and Westbrook are there, too. The mainstream has suddenly changed its tune.
No, they havent.

I haven't really chimed in on this thread but have been following it a bit. I really have to say it's stuff like this that makes me despise the twitter age... Joeschmo claiming he's an insider gets people so riled up.

Trolls like Deadmik5 feed on peoples desperations... There's no proven insider info there.

But I'm actually an insider. So anyway my cousin's friend's brother's mother's acquaintance (my source) happens to be the janitor working in the facilities who just happened to listen in on an executive meeting on call with DA in Vegas who says he's going to San Diego to tell Westbrook he should sign with the Celtics, Westbrook will be so enamored that he'll force OKC's hand by having him demand a trade to the Celtics who will only have to give up James Young and tickets to Hamilton...multiple sources claiming balcony seats.

You heard it here first  ;D
great news!!! thanks for the info and tp for you. but were those balcony seats center or wing?  ;D

Sorry for the delay I was waiting for my multiple sauces to get back to me. Trade is currently held up. Haggling over tix. OKC wants center, DA trying to trade them wing...

DA, always trying to fleece opposing GMs
