thanks to Oracle we go from 28th in the League to around 16 if you simply drop Smart's historically bad Shooting numbers, throw in Turner and Sully who are gone and we are right around 35% from three which is not bad.

Bottom line with Sully and Turner gone if we can get smart to drive more and take better shots it should really help are 3 point efficiency.

Smart was 61 makes and 241 attempts last year that must be improved upon.

Your numbers are not correct but if you subtract Smart's 3's from the season total you end up with 656-1901 which is 34.5%.  The C's shot 33.5% on the year so his 3 point % reduced the average by almost exactly 1%.

Tp Oracle and I owe u 9 More. Just as I suspected we are very close to being a middle of the road shooting team, without Smart's historically bad shooting.

Green light three's for the C's are

 Kelly
 Bradley
 Thomas
 Hunter
 Young

 Shoot with caution

 Crowder
 Horford
 Rozier

So, how many more wins do you project us last season having if we shot at 34.5% instead of 33.5%?

Is this still having Marcus on the floor?

The TP's are not necessary.  The reason I answered your question is because people seem to have this view that his 3 pt. shooting was extremely detrimental to the teams success.  The actual cost of his poor 3 pt. shooting on a per game basis was probably less than 1 point,  the additional defensive value he adds is far in excess of that.

Marcus shot 34% as a rookie (heaves excluded) on the same volume.  Last year was very likely more due to injury and a loss of confidence.  There is no reason to expect that he won't shoot at or around 34% from 3 next year, especially if his role is reduced when surrounded by much better offensive options.  Maybe Marcus will develop into a better play maker in time but at this point he is being asked to do way more than he can handle in an effort to develop him further.  Ask Avery to create like Marcus has been and you would have an even a bigger nightmare on your hands.

The difference would be 22 more made 3's from Marcus in order to achieve the 34.5% number.  Marcus played 61 games last year, 25 of those were losses and I'm sure that a few of those were close enough that a made 3 might have been the difference.  It is difficult to determine how many exactly as you would have to breakdown games individually.  How many did he win with his defense and everything else that he does?

@The Oracle

Personally, I do not think it makes much sense to examine a posteriori factors of the game like this.

The what ifs are infinite (what if we had made one FT more, grabbed a couple rebounds more etc).

But that's just me.

Didn't Crowder shoot the 3 well before he got banged up?

Yeah seriously.  The reason Smart shoots so many three's is because that's the best shot he can get.  And because teams are perfectly happy to give those to him.

smart said he was gonna work on shooting and his conditioning, so that could mean less injuries, more speed and overall a better shot.  If he comes through with these improvements, we are talking about a huge improvement to this team.
