Agree. Ideally it would be nice to win now AND win in 3-4 years when GS and CLE are getting older. We're gonna win now (maybe not a championship but we're gonna be solid for a few years still). But I'd prefer to hold on to these picks, take good studs, and hand them the keys to the team as guys like Isaiah and Al get older. That way, we continue our success and groom the younger guys into better players while still maintaining success.
I know it's tough to do, but imagine Isaiah and Al retiring/taking on smaller roles maybe around 2020, and yet you still have a Jaylen Brown, Josh Jackson, Marcus Smart, etc core to build around. You've been a successful team for those years, and now the young generation is here and ready to pick things up from where the older guys left off. Preaches stability too.
That's my dream scenario. Tough to make it happen though. Point is, we aren't gonna beat GS in the finals with Blake or Westbrook added to the core, while gutting the team of its long term future. Might as well keep stockpiling and reloading for when the Warriors and Cavs fall off.
