All these trade ideas to get us a star like Westbrook, Blake, etc sound real exciting but won't get us a title. The next year or two are going to be between the Warriors and Cavs and so we need to be patient. Let's not trade away our ability to have a couple chances at a young franchise player who could be our cornerstone for years to come, in order to get a year or two rental of someone who will only make us an also ran. Then they go away or are too old and we're starting over. Be patient and develop these younger guys until LeBron is past his prime and the Warriors break up. No one we could add out there can make this team beat them right now anyways. No one remembers how great the Jazz team really was because they peaked at the same time the Bulls did.

It's all going to come down to that '17 Nets swap. How it's looking at the deadline...

Agree. Ideally it would be nice to win now AND win in 3-4 years when GS and CLE are getting older. We're gonna win now (maybe not a championship but we're gonna be solid for a few years still). But I'd prefer to hold on to these picks, take good studs, and hand them the keys to the team as guys like Isaiah and Al get older. That way, we continue our success and groom the younger guys into better players while still maintaining success.

I know it's tough to do, but imagine Isaiah and Al retiring/taking on smaller roles maybe around 2020, and yet you still have a Jaylen Brown, Josh Jackson, Marcus Smart, etc core to build around. You've been a successful team for those years, and now the young generation is here and ready to pick things up from where the older guys left off. Preaches stability too.

That's my dream scenario. Tough to make it happen though. Point is, we aren't gonna beat GS in the finals with Blake or Westbrook added to the core, while gutting the team of its long term future. Might as well keep stockpiling and reloading for when the Warriors and Cavs fall off.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Some people have accused Durant of being a coward for signing with the Warriors.  OP is more cowardly.  Make a trade if you get more value coming in than going out.  Decline a trade if it doesn't.  Don't be scared of getting better.

If the Celts want to peak in 2-3 years, acquiring the center piece this summer would be a good way to make that happen.  Most really good teams need a year or two at least to fully gel.

Then another super team comes along. Don't be afraid of competition.

Not sure where you get off calling me a coward, but considering you clearly don't know what you're talking about and it is also clearly against the rules I'd advise against making personal attacks in the future. That being said, your argument makes no sense. If you don't get better enough to win a championship this year by making a marginal trade, then you're smarter to set yourself up to be a little better this season than last yet retain the assets you have that could make you a contender for years to come. Usually when someone is calling people names it's because their argument is weak so they try to spice it up. Next time try thinking a little harder and making a better point.

Yep, and if we don't waste our assets on someone who won't make much difference that super team could be us.

If we trade all our assets for Westbrook and he bounces after one season then our window was one year and our promising future gone. That would be suicide. Don't do it Danny, keep the Brooklyn picks n build slowly through the draft

100% agree on taking the two gifted Brooklyn picks and stockpiling talent for a sustained run through the next decade
Free agents will come our way and we won't need to gut the nucleus of what we are building at the moment- it's really win - win - win that was the beauty of the whole Durant dream, not giving anybody up to get a game changer

I get shivers thinking about this - I love watching this current team grow and play hard - earning their shot at silverware, not assembling a bunch of mates for a free swing

Please Don't mortgage the future for any potential one and done rentals

You are aware that both the Thomas and Bradley bargain contracts expire after two more seasons and that Horford is 30?

awesome, top 5, free gift, cheap, rookies are in essence -
cheap for 5 years
Horford hmmm... he keeps us serious until he can become mentor daddy for all of our amazing youths-- he is the breakthrough free agent that convinces all others that is OK to come to Basketball nirvana and live well and prosper -- fingers crossed

There has to be a balance between competing now while also setting the C's up for the future.  It is delusional to think that a star 19 year old drafted next year will be leading the C's to title contention before he is 23-24 at least.  Do you really want to conserve all those assets and wait 4-5 years for a championship window to begin to open.  I would rather do both, preferably keep 2017 Brooklyn and trade a lot of the other stuff.  You can't just wait around and assume everything is going to come up roses 4-5 years from now with those picks.
