Presti's back is against the wall. I bet Ainge is doing him a favor by greenlighting the rumor to create some juice for Presti's position, and there's a standing lowball offer of last resort from Ainge but Presti is only using it to try to drive up the price elsewhere, but then lo and behold when push comes to shove and time is running out it'll turn out that Ainge's lowball offer is actually competitive, much to Presti's disappointment, because every team will be treating Westbrook like a pure rental because that's what he actually is, and so Ainge adds a spoonful of prospect sugar and draft pick gravy, and voila, we get Westbrook for what seems like robbery to most of the NBA fanbase but for what we see as a fair price for a rental, except for a faction of binkie fanatics or whatever. I like the framework of the double idea walker834 posted, but I think the Clippers would ultimately need a bit less and the Thunder would wind up needing significantly less. Something like this...
Griffin for Crowder + 18 Nets 1st + Memphis 1st + 3rd string prospects + 2nd round picks
Westbrook for Isaiah + 18 Celtics 1st + Clippers 1st + 3rd string prospects + 2nd round picks
We not only keep Smart and Brown, we also keep the potential #1 pick next year.
But let's be even greedier. Doc wants Crowder? Tough. He'll take Amir and Kelly and like it, lol, because it's all about getting a Brooklyn 1st, a caliber of asset that no other team interested at all in going-for-it-now has. We have two of them, so teams want the better one or both. Tough! Ask around the league for a better available pick, then. Nope! None, not one. All trading-superstar roads lead to us. So...
Westbrook/Rozier/Jackson
Bradley/Smart/Hunter
Crowder/Brown/Young
Griffin/Yabusele/Bentil
Horford/Mickey/Zizic
I'm imagining rapid development from Brown, though, him earning a starting spot and winning some ROY votes. And I'm expecting a leap to adequate all-around shooting from Smart and more confidence on his drives, thereby pushing him ahead in the lineup. And so I'm imagining Bradley and Crowder turning into super-subs, the best 6th man and 7th man in the league.
Westbrook/Rozier/Jackson
Smart/Bradley/Hunter
Brown/Crowder/Young
Griffin/Yabusele/Bentil
Horford/Mickey/Zizic
