The only way the numbers seem to add up on this is if you send Amir with Crowder to Sacramento, and Jerebko with Gay to the Clippers. So we'll basically have no bench. Or a starting SF.

Makes sense:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jf3n2z3

What picks do we give up?  One Nets pick or both?

Yes bench would be very inexperienced:

IT   Rozier   Jackson
Bradley  McLemore  RJ
Smart   Brown   Young
Griffin  Yabusele   Bentil
Horford   Olynyk  Mickey
And the starting lineup will be very small. Better get Pierce back instead of McLemore.

Even Doc isn't stupid enough to trade Griffin for Gay. Or is he?

That doesn't make sense. Why would he want Gay over Crowder? If anything, it should be Gay PLUS Crowder going to LAC with draft compensation + Amir going to Sacramento, which would make more sense all around.

I also don't like any deal that loses us Crowder with nothing coming back for us at the 3. We are seriously thin there.

EDIT: I mean, you can't argue getting a star like Griffin, but he's honestly one of the last stars I have a preference for. I'd almost prefer Love to him due to his ability to stretch the floor.

Not that Crowder is that good, but outside of something like a Butler trade to take his spot, I don't think we can trade Crowder and stay truly competitive this year. We just don't have the depth at the 3 to take that hit without getting a substantial piece back at the 3 spot.

I feel like that's not enough for Blake, I think Gay is over valued in that situation. This might decimate our depth but I think this is how much it would take to get Blake (provided he's healthy and willing to sign long term)

We could get a starting SF next offseason in Hayward. As for this season, perhaps we sign Vince Carter to a veteran minimum and split the minutes with Brown. We would have fun slugging it out with Toronto for second place. Next year, who knows...

The more I thnik about this the more I come back to Gordon Hayward.

He is a FA next season and the Cs will obviously have an iside track on him with Stevens. The Jazz may look at their wings (Hood, Burke, Johnson and Exum) and think they can fill his void internally while adding assets rather then just loosing him as a FA.

Maybe a trade built around AB and the Nets 2018?

Assuming we do, indeed have an 'in' on getting Hayward signed (because of Stevens), I wouldn't want to give up any significant asset in order to trade for Hayward.  I'd just wait and sign him in free agency next Summer.

Yes, we'd probably have to work with Utah to use their Bird Rights on him to do a sign & trade since we'd probably need to go over the cap, but that's not something that should cost you a BKN pick.

No. If you add Griffin, there's no more cap space next year.

Or like someone mentioned above, trade Bradley instead of Crowder.

That makes sense.....PP back to Boston.

Hollinger's analysis is garbage. I mean, how does adding Griffin while subtracting Johnson, Crowder and Young result in 11 fewer wins next year? That is absolutely ridiculous.

Lifshatz just tweeted it's a "major" star. Not Gay. I tweeted back "Cousins." I believe Griffin also possible.  It's clear Sully was moved to make $ room for another big--not Horford.

I think his math doesnt work until you get 15 or 20 games into the season.

The analysis is based of PER and position, so trading our SFs from last year would leave us with Brown, who has a PER of 0

Edit: Never mind, they view Pierce as a SF (even though he's a small ball PF at this point.  IDK then
I'm bitter.

What lineup is better:

Paul, Reddick, Crowder, Gay, and DJ

Or

Paul, Reddick, Pierce, Griffin, and DJ

I think there's a good argument to be made that LAC is better sans Griffin. They certainly matchup with Gokden State that way.

I could see a deal where Griffin and Pierce come to Boston, Doc gets Crowder and the Nets #1  and AJ.  The Clippers did better last year when Griffin was not playing.
