Well, after the first game I was impressed by his aggressiveness but now after watching all the games so far, his lack of offensive skills makes me sick..for a 3rd pick I am not looking forward to waiting 4-5 years to see if he learns how to put the ball in the basket. I guess great practices pre draft outside of game situations means little..if the guy cant shoot in real games surrounded by real players of summer league quality, what hope is there...I know...he is young...

Hey, maybe we can draft another top pick next year who is aggressive with great D but cant shoot...We can always try and hold the other team to under 70 points every night...Joy, Joy...

Hey, but Dunn has looked horrible :'( Actually a lot of the players taken after Brown look more ready to contribute than Brown does...Wake me in 4 years and let me know if he can shoot yet..Hope I am wrong on this one....

Brown looks really good, especially for a 19 year old.
Wait until he puts on 20 lbs of muscle.

Nothing better than reading overeactions based on summer league games.

Brown has the body, but yeah, right now he stinks. For a guy who is supposed to be a brainiac, he doesn't show a lot of mental game right now. I don't like how he looks when he's off the ball, offensively and defensively.

You can imagine the potential given how his body looks at nineteen. But man, right now, he doesn't look like he's very good at basketball.

I hate the pick, too. I gave up on Ainge as a drafter, though. Honestly believe he just tries to be "cute" by reaching on guys in the event that one exceeds expectations and makes him look like a genius. How else can you explain his repetition of "reaches" that never pan out?

We've had a ton of picks lately but most of Danny's choices seem to fall into just a few categories:

1. Guys that we project to defend multiple positions well.  Ex. Bradley/Smart/Rozier/Brown.

2. Guys that were highly regarded but fell due to a bad year, injury issues, etc.  Ex. Bradley (again), Sully, Rondo.

3. Stretchy 4s.  Ex. Olynyk, JJJ, Yabu, Sully.

4. Defensive but limited bigs on cheap deals. Ex. Perk, Melo, Mickey, probably Zizic.

Most of the rest are 2nd rd dice rolls and Young/Hunter, who are probably just the shooter version of #4.  He's not always reaching but he definitely has priorities that lead to reaches.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Just remember his age and experience.

he's incredibly smart with a Russell westbrook level of athleticism at 19 years old.
To see a 19 year old attack the rim and look to score at the rim like he does is a very promising sign.

Right now I'm seeing this kids FLOOR as Demar DeRozan with defense. if he can pick up a good stroke by his 3rd or 4th year, we'll have a perennial All Star on our hands.

Already you can see his defensive toughness and versatility. He's also a lot better off the dribble than I expected.

This type of bbal in summer league is very fast and very unorganized. Jaylen will benefit with NBA shooters around him and an open NBA court in transition.
I'm very happy with what i've see so far, even if it's been 20 minutes of summer league action with a sore knee.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Jerryd Bayless had a way better summer league for Portland than Russell Westbrook did for OKC when they were rookies. Marco bellinelli might be the best summer league player ever.

Perspective.

We should give brown plenty of time before passing any lasting get judgments. But there's no question he stinks right now. He's super raw. More so than I expected. He doesn't do anything well in summer league other than defend one on one and get to the free throw line. That doesn't bode well for his rookie year at the NBA level.

I have a strong feeling we are gonna be putting all of our practice of rationalizing a player with terrible offensive numbers - - that we've honed watching Marcus Smart - - to good use with jaylen brown.

The optimistic perspective is that Brown has had the game come very easy to him because of his freakish size and athleticism -- he hasn't been required to learn the game in order to be successful. Now, obviously, he will.  Sure hope he is able to develop a feel for the game and required skills for NBA success, but who knows.

This is a great detailed explanation for a simpler way of getting putting it - - Ainge has draft types that he likes to go for. Sometimes that results in reaches. He usually finds guys who can play but I still have doubts about his ability to identify star talent.

On the plus side, marquise Chriss looks at least as bad as brown. So I'm glad we didn't draft him.

I warned Ainge about taking this kid third.

What was his response?

 To draft him anyway.

Hope I am wrong..nothing would make me happier for our team...But....

So far, Brown has shot 10 for 40 before tonights game. If we add the 0 for 4 tonight, he is now 10 for 44 vs Summer League players....22.7%...Is there anyone in the first 15 picks that is shooting worse than that?
