Must have been watching a different game because he hasn't stood out to me at all. Malcolm Miller is making more noise IMO

I agree that Miller has looked very good. The French Tank needs more time. His shot looks awful.

He's a few years away.

Stevens said something disturbing to me in a halftime interview tonite. He said, at Butler, he learned to work with small front lines because the bigger kids went to the bigger schools. So now the Celtics are restricted to small front lines because of the coach? I certainly hope not, but they do seem to pass up every opportunity to get a guy with some length.

I didn't watch the 2nd half against Utah tonite, but I heard Lyles had a big night. Not surprising with the smallish front line the Celtics were throwing out there. I just don't see the size required to compete against taller NBA bigs. The biggest kid they have out there is about 6'8", and the French kid isn't even that.

I can't see this team seriously competing without more size up front. Horford just isn't enough.

He's got two years left on his European contract.  He will come over when that's done.

Has a buyout clause I thought.

Welcome to the new NBA, where the quickness is king and height doesn't matter.

I don't find that disturbing. Just honest. I'd rather have a skilled 6'8'' player than a 7 foot stiff. If a skilled big man becomes available, CBS would want him, but we won't sacrifice skill, IQ, or versatility just so we can have a 7 footer out on the court. Horford is a good example.

Oh, and even though Lyles had a big night, we won.

A few things:

1) Ainge gets the players.
2) It's summer league.  He's not even coaching.
3) It's summer league.  Most of these players won't be in the Celtics rotation.
4) He was remarking how the league is trending smaller now, with players who in the past were small forwards playing power forward.  The interviewer was trying to give him praise for being ahead of the curve in doing that in Butler, and Stevens in his awe-shucks persona said they did that because they couldn't get the tall kids.
5) The front line will be Horford, Amir, Olynyk, and Jerebko.  That's a decent amount of size.

One thing hurting Yab and Bentil is the complete and utter lack of ability of Rozier and Thorton to hit a rolling big or hold a big and let our big post their small who switches.  They can't even hit a pop in a timely manner.  Neither are point guards.  Thorton might as well not be out there if he can't run an offense.  He is a one v one guy, nothing more.

Lol slow down

He looks OK so far. Understands pick and roll - and at least they got him the ball tonight on the switch. Some strength but as usual lacks height.

I can see him up at some point but he has a ways to go. I also dont see him as a Dramont Green type.. i see him more of a Boris Diaw type with a little more bulk.

For those saying its just speed that matters, say that when Tristan thompson or Steven Adams is killing you on the O boards.

Doesn't he look awful on defense though?

He doesn't look Awful just lacks experience..  He Doesnt quite know how to use his body against bigger people in the post yet but he doesnt foul a ton (Like Bentile and Hunter)  He concedes buckets when he is beat inside (Saw that twice) But he did block 2 shots tonight..

He just needs to be coached but I can see him sooner than later being trust worthy on Defense by mid season..

Yab is 280 pounds and moves around better than  Sully.  I can see Stevens using Horford and him as our front line at times this year.  I don't expect him to be the starter from day 1, but Amir isn't going to be here forever.  He's a good option there going forward.  I don't see him as our starter but the celtic even historically have liked undersized pf's who can matchup in different ways.  Paul Silas was basically this.  So was Glenn Davis, Leon powe, brandon bass etc..

I don't think Sully fits us as a bench player.  Yab is more versatile that way.  Sully was either going to be good or he wasn't.

There are only so many 7 footers that are good in the NBA.  Stevens knowing how to coach undersized big men is pretty normal and a skill he has.  It's not a negative.  There are very few true big men coaches and it's more a specialized thing anyways.

Right?  That was so frustrating to watch that ball hog, Rozier, elect to take tough jumper after tough jumper over a frontline player instead of feeding Bentil who was not only being guarded by Utah's point guards in such situations but also can score inside.  Ugh.  The only guard capable of actually running a team on our summer league roster is Jackson, imo.  I really hope that Rozier isn't made the primary ball handler off of the bench this year, as he's a horrible decision maker, and the same goes for Smart, imo.  Jackson is the only one among those three who could actually successfully spell Isaiah, imo.

Alright, I only watched one half of our first SL game (the 2nd half), but it was perfectly clear that he is *not* ready. I see why Ainge drafted him - he has a big body, some bounce, and some skill on offense. But the key thing for rookies is that they need to play passable defense to stay on the floor. Yab right now is nowhere close. So let's stop with the Draymond Green comparisons until he actually learns to play defense, shall we?

Agreed. Draymond's main ability is defensive versatility. Yabadabadoo has got to get better on that side of the court.

Yeah Yaba isn't ready he gets lost on offense and defense he is very raw and his shot isn't that great yet. But he has a lot of potential the guy is RIPPED when he flexed after that putback dunk I saw no similarities to Sully. This guy is really strong and athletic he looks like he'll turn into a great pick
