Alright, I only watched one half of our first SL game (the 2nd half), but it was perfectly clear that he is *not* ready. I see why Ainge drafted him - he has a big body, some bounce, and some skill on offense. But the key thing for rookies is that they need to play passable defense to stay on the floor. Yab right now is nowhere close. So let's stop with the Draymond Green comparisons until he actually learns to play defense, shall we?

Agreed. Draymond's main ability is defensive versatility. Yabadabadoo has got to get better on that side of the court.

Brandon Bass is floor
Larry Johnson is ceiling

And passing.  I haven't seen any of that from Yabusele, yet, but it's only been two summer league games.  He kind of reminds me of Michael Sweetney, though (but again, it's only the summer league).  Ugh.

Reminds me of thicker version of Trevor Booker. I don't see anything special. If he is as good as Sully that will be something.

Most of his problems in this vid can be coached away. Positioning, defensive technique, etc..

Bigger problem is his tendency to take plays off, and his lateral slowness.

He should be a solid role player though. Bass/BigBaby2

I think he's got talent.  the issue is so many of these guys don't play to their abilities.

Booker is an interesting comp. The way he moves actually is somewhat reminiscent of Glen Davis. I don't love the idea of a first round pick for a player like that but if he keeps fit and has a reliable outside jumper maybe it works.

Yabusele needs a lot of work. Defensively. Like Young, I saw him ball watch, and wait for plays to play out, instead of taking the initiative, and forcing the action. On pick and rolls, Yabusele would stay too far back to switch back on cutting bigs.

I don't think he's overly physical either.  He's got some good offense t hough and a good nba body and moves pretty good.  Booker has a mean streak.  I'm not really seeing the comparison.  Yab is like glenn davis if davis played under control.  Yab is almost behind the curve though as far as his development.

It's weird watching a guy like Yab.  As Rozier runs around these guys.  it's like showing effort is foreign to some of these guys.

They all have to develop and just lack that.  Bunch of bubble boys.

He is decent .  But these are Summer league players .  He is not ready for LeBron and crowd .

Sully would make him look silly bad , because of his vast more NBA court experience.  Especically rebounding.

Sully even fat is more useful this year. He know how to guard on the block better.

Not to say Yaba could not be better , but Sully has rebounding instincts that are amazing for a fat guy. And Sully shoots decent 15-18 in.

Sully has pretty darn good pass to .....the long ones.

Sully acts like a 15 teen year old mentally .  Too many growing up issues .

yeah you can see how much a year paid off for rozier and guys like hunter  playing against tougher competition.  young hasn't had the same kind of growth so far.  yab shows flashes and i think he's got potential but he's just decent right now.

DA is really good at finding unique athletes i'll give him that.  Yab is pretty unique. He doesn't draft liek the typical fan.  He's pretty good at finding certain types of players  and having a philosophy as far as how he sees this team.

Sometimes overthinks it and misses draymond green and drafts fab melo though too.

He's not even remotely close to ready. He looks lost out there 90% of the time.

It looks to me like he's thinking too much rather than just paying.

No. He is not used to SL pace. SL fast pace but not smart basketball.  Alot more hustle because guys are desperate for jobs

Yabu is ready as any other rookies are from the 2016 draft

Stevens said something disturbing to me in a halftime interview tonite. He said, at Butler, he learned to work with small front lines because the bigger kids went to the bigger schools. So now the Celtics are restricted to small front lines because of the coach? I certainly hope not, but they do seem to pass up every opportunity to get a guy with some length.

I didn't watch the 2nd half against Utah tonite, but I heard Lyles had a big night. Not surprising with the smallish front line the Celtics were throwing out there. I just don't see the size required to compete against taller NBA bigs. The biggest kid they have out there is about 6'8", and the French kid isn't even that.

I can't see this team seriously competing without more size up front. Horford just isn't enough.

Didn't we just sign an All-Star big and drafted a 6'11 guy in the first round?! Wow talk about misconceptions.

The goal isnt winning SL, its to play the young guys, esp our own players. You wanted us to put 7 footers on our SL who have no shot of making the team just for the sake of it?!

One thing hurting Yab and Bentil is the complete and utter lack of ability of Rozier and Thorton to hit a rolling big or hold a big and let our big post their small who switches.  They can't even hit a pop in a timely manner.  Neither are point guards.  Thorton might as well not be out there if he can't run an offense.  He is a one v one guy, nothing more.

Right?  That was so frustrating to watch that ball hog, Rozier, elect to take tough jumper after tough jumper over a frontline player instead of feeding Bentil who was not only being guarded by Utah's point guards in such situations but also can score inside.  Ugh.  The only guard capable of actually running a team on our summer league roster is Jackson, imo.  I really hope that Rozier isn't made the primary ball handler off of the bench this year, as he's a horrible decision maker, and the same goes for Smart, imo.  Jackson is the only one among those three who could actually successfully spell Isaiah, imo.
