Young is still, well, young.  As lost as he's looked doing anything but shooting, I still think he's a better bet to ever have a role in the league than Hunter, Jackson, or Bentil.  Those guys are older than James and have more skill, but don't look like they have the physical tools to carve out a role at the next level.

I agree! We don't need to draft role players. These guys can be signed during FA. there is also no need to fill every roster spot with role players, because we are rarely playing a 10- or 11- players rotation.

Let Young develop, because we don't really have players with more potential than him to plug into the roster right now.

He is developing nothing.

I don't think anyone would be mistaken to criticize Young, but is it crazy that I'd rather keep Young over Hunter?

Ainge has been great at collecting draft picks the past few years. With mixed results.
The team is still much better in the backcourt than the frontcourt. He will have to go beyond Horford up front to make them contenders in a shrinking League.

Yes, absolutely. Although tonight it seemed as though Young played with some aggression (for him) there is no way if I had to choose between the two that Young would win out.

I don't like the games of either.

Wouldn't blink if both were gone. Terrible waste of draft choices.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

One would think with Hinkie's success Danny would have learnt something. It's likely Sam would have traded or cut them and brought in someone who could contribute. Or, get trade assets for them. At best I would keep Young to find out if he's still developing.

My choice would have been to draft and keep Tyler Ulis. Not saying he would have been the right choice, but you know he could contribute right away especially in a limited role. I'm sure there were other options that would have been more ideal than keeping Hunter....Young, I'm not so sure.

I just can't believe how many of you are still hanging on. To find out if he's "still developing"? He's entering his 3rd season. How long do you wait? You can't yet see that he will never make it? Time to send him on his way. Sorry even if he is only 12 years old.

Interesting how each of us has our own perspective on how players might turn out based on our own biases and/or experiences. Sometimes it seems so blatantly obvious that we feel others lack common sense. For instance, I can understand my interest in keeping Young may not work out. On the other hand I feel he is improving and that his 3 point shooting may prove invaluable.

Some CB bloggers are crazy about Hunter's potential. I am a bit bewildered by that?

Young is terrible and has shown virtually NO improvement!!  I agree regarding RJ Hunter.  The ONLY way he last is this league is IF he can shoot 40% or better from three!!  He has ZERO athletic ability.  Mickey does not display a high basketball IQ in any fashion and I am very concerned that he will never GET IT.

On the other hand, Rozier (16th pick from last year) and Guerschon Yabusele (our 16th pick this year) are the real deals.

I can see Rozier being a solid PG/SG rotation guy in the league for many years.  I am VERY intrigued by Guerschon!!!

Sorry for my late comments.  I was on vacation in FL and this was the first game I could watch.

I didn't watch the game, but I checked the box score and saw that everyone other than Rozier played like crap. Maybe it's just a bad game for the Celtics squad as a whole?

I still say we keep Young. We need shooters, so we should continue developing him as he could prove useful in the future. He's been hot from three before this game.

Yes.  Young doesn't do anything better than Hunter.

I'm not sure what game people were watching last night.  I thought Hunter was fine.  He was one of our best defenders and was constantly covering other people's mistakes.  I can't remember how many times an opposing ball handler reached the top of the key and wasn't picked up by anyone.  Hunter was scrambling to keep a very raggedy group on the same page.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
This is where the Danny Ainge Fan Club comes by to defend a miserable, miserable wasted 1st round draft pick.
He will blossom this year. He is a stroke you can't teach.

Just like Gerald Green and Kedrick Brown, right?

They Don't shoot the ball like he does. Have you watched him shoot in practice. It maybe work ethic but he can shoot and he is getting better at getting to his spot on D. if E'Twaun Moore can make it in this league surely James Young can and will.
