We drafted him as a project, so I assume that Ainge understood that he could be half-baked at this point and could need more time learning the game.

Unfortunately for Young, Ainge stockpiled picks and the team got good, and now we have a roster crunch. This could lead Ainge to cut bait quicker than he would have otherwise. Also, we have Brown, who already looks close to being a contributor.

If he still seems like a better prospect than our late picks, Danny would just keep him and let the late round picks walk.

i agree. waive him. the celtics dont have to "wait" for young to develop anymore. the c's still have young guards/forwards that can develop into great players.  at this point, he's taknig up a roster spot.

He has no idea what he's doing when taking it to the basket or anything else he does. He has no feel for the game, he's doomed'!

Not looking too promising right now .  He should be practicing 24/7 for two year now as a professional ........

Should be more advanced than college kids

There's obviously a good chance he doesn't make the team this year. I can think of at least a dozen guys id realistically rather have be #15 over him.

Can we please stop taking players who need to 'learn the game'?  How do guys even make it to the NBA without knowing how to play?  I'm just sick and tired of the, "well, he has all of the tools to be a great player, but he doesn't have the skill yet,' or the , "he doesn't know how to play and/or work, but he's such a great athlete that we'll teach him that stuff later," mantras.  If a guy doesn't have any skill by the time he's drafted, he's not just going to wake up one morning and become an all star, nor should he have been drafted in the first place, imo.  Ugh.

Definitely a big chance.  I imagine there will be one more free agent signing, and then Hunter, Young, Mickey, Bentil, and Jackson will battle it out for the final four roster spots.  And my money is not on Young surviving.

I would prefer taking a swing on a random undrafted free agent at this point.

This is where the Danny Ainge Fan Club comes by to defend a miserable, miserable wasted 1st round draft pick.

Without fail...

Im not a Young apologist, but people who are for cutting Young too easily discredit his age. My only concern would be if he wasn't improving year after year, but by all indications he's steadily improving at a position of dire need. We only have 2 shooters on a roster that uses a 10+ player rotation at times.

I honestly consider Young as a draft and stash prospect, and still 3 years younger than a Buddy Hield, whose shot just developed last season. Young is the exact prospect you should have at the end of your roster, high upside with a specific team-required skill. Let's call a spade a spade if we don't win a ring, it won't because Young was sitting on the bench.

God forbid that he made a bad draft pick. Who does that.

Eh, whatever.  There will be a few more like that.  Every team misses, and there a few fans on every team who harp on the misses.  After tearing apart a title-winning team 3 years ago, Ainge has the Celtics with the fourth-best odds according to Vegas.  All but a few franchises would trade places with the Celtics in a heartbeat.

But I'm sure you all know better.  You're freaking amazing GMs, if someone would only give you the chance.
