I like this signing.

Henderson & Covington is actually a plausible starting wing combination in the NBA, though it's still exceedingly mediocre.

Bayless - Henderson - Covington - Simmons - Noel

That's not an awful starting lineup.  Good blend of experience and quickness around Simmons.
not awful, true. with simmons passing the rest of them should get good scoring opportunities. and MAYBE noel can make up for simmons poor defensive efforts.

so, what do say pho, do the phillies break 25 wins? my bet is no.

I just want them to win more than the Nets.  And they're heading in the right direction.

Just so long as they win more than the Nets.

I think it's too early to tell.  I still believe they are going to find a trade for Okafor before the start of the season, as long as Embiid is on track to play.  Especially since Saric is coming over.

As things stand, if Simmons is anywhere near as good as advertised and Noel stays healthy for most of the season, I would guess they get to 25 wins.  They won 18 games two years ago without Simmons, when they weren't trying to play 2 centers at once most of the time.

I think it's clear at this point they're looking to build around Simmons and whichever of their three center prospects sticks around / turns out the best.

They'll probably have two more top 10 picks next year with their own pick and the pick they're owed from the Lakers.

probably, but here's another question, if they choose to compete now, do you think they will have 2 or 3 top 20 players in 5 years?

Simmons/Okafor/Embiid?

Seems much more likely it's one or none than anything else.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

They got their guy in Simmons, but this is exactly what I'm saying. Noel will not be a top 20 player. Embiid is possible, but there are questions. Okafor is more trade bait because Simmons is not a guy who can spread the floor for him (he can shoot some, but he is not a shooter, if you know what I mean).

At this point, they still don't have a core in my opinion. They have a guy. But every champion has several top guys in the league.

Even in today's NBA, one or two, or even three, is not enough. Just ask Kevin Durant

You don't consider starting Henderson and Covington tanking? :P

I would only say the likely one is Simmons. I can't think of a guy in the history of the NBA that returned or played at superstar level after not playing basketball for 2.5 years. This was important development time he has missed. Okafor really does not project as a top 20 player in the league from anything I have ever read or seen.

Leandro Barbosa will not return to the Warriors at a discount, and instead is a Sun again.  2 years, $8 million.
