I think you just have to have realistic expectations.  The last two offseasons, the Celtics attempted to make something big happen.  I was excited about the prospect of it, but it would have taken a willing trade partner and for the right circumstances to play out.  I didn't expect anything big to happen.  I was disappointed that nothing happened, but I would have been more disappointed if they didn't try.

It's the same this season.  I've never thought Durant is likely to sign with the Celtics, but there's a small chance of it happening.  It's exciting to think about and fun to discuss here, but I won't feel fooled when it doesn't happen. Should Ainge not try to get him because it likely won't happen?  Of course not.

The whole draft thing, he has some staunch defenders but Al Jefferson, Avery Bradley, Rajon Rondo, and Tony Allen to an extent, are the only guys who panned out. That's four players out of 25+ picks during his whole career.

There is also another solution if you are really disapointed with the FO.
There are 29 other teams that you can support.

I did not want to make it seem that I have given up on this team. I like that they play hard and have some good young pieces. They are fun to watch, and could be good.
My point was, I get excited about the possibility of a big move than nothing. It's a recurring theme with the Celtics. I know it's not 100% on Danny, but I feel a little like a kid who's promised a new bike each Christmas and get's a scooter. While scooter is nice, I want the bike already.

They are reporting inaccuracies and then we react to them.

There is a chance we get Durant and/or Horford but it's low. You should expect that we don't do much in free agency and hope that we get something big done.

Even if we don't make a big move, this team is full of young players who are only going to get better and was good enough to win 48 games last year.

If it's not meant to be with Durant or another great free agent this year, just sit back and enjoy the ride of watching a team full of high effort players develop and improve.

With the Nets pick the next two years we have the ability to add players that could someday become stars. There isn't a team in the league better set up to develop talented young plays than in Boston. Our team plays hard, plays physical and shares the ball what better environment to grow players.

I'd like to believe that, but with what we've done in the draft the last two years I don't. No faith whatsoever that the Nets picks won't be entirely squandered.

I tend to be more positive, so I'm going to wait to actually see Jaylen Brown on the court for the C's before I write the book on whether our draft picks are entirely squandered.

However, even if you think Ainge is a terrible drafter with this many lottery picks in a row he'd be bound to get at least one right.

Since the stats on his drafting show he whiffs about 60 percent of the time, you'd be right.

Perhaps he did mail this draft in under the assumption that he needed cap space. Brown might amount to something, but the easily proffered laundry list of his shortcomings by scouts are pretty disappointing for the third pick in the draft.

That requires signing someone, though, and not this tired "the best deals are the ones you don't make." They won't be able to sell that to the flock forever.

So, I've been fooled one too many times by this team. Seems every year I get caught up in trade rumors, big FA signings, draft day fireworks. Yet at the end of the day, more serviceable players.
Spent all day last Thursday, not to mention the weeks leading up to it,  believing this would be the time. A big trade was coming. End of the day, they draft Brown. Don't hate the guy, but don't think he moves the needle. The year before, it was Rozier.

Trade deadline last year it was Horford, Butler, etc. Then, nothing.

Free agents? Picked up Amir last year. Yet another pretty good role player. This year I'm reading about Durant, Horford, even Howard, But I'm at the point I know at the end of the day, They sign another okay guy. Not sure who it's going to be, but at least I'm prepared.

Don't count on us signing Durant, but just know that this is a pretty unique situation for us.  First time in forever we've had major cap space.  We're a quality team with a outstanding foundation.  We have tons of options available to us.  Eventually, we will trade for an all-star.  We have too many assets to not.   

So the point is, having optimism heading into this offseason is warranted.  This isn't a typical year.

Tony Allen only worked out "to an extent"?  He was the 25th pick in the draft.  I think the problem is more that your expectations for late picks are much too high

Maybe i'm in the minority, but I'll gladly take the 7th best record in the NBA in exchange for some minor summertime disappointment over non-moves every day of the week and 2x on Sunday.

We have a really good team.
We have a really good coach.
We have a really good GM who built that team and hired that coach.

Would I love to add a "star"? Yes.
Would I rather be a team like SAC or MIL or LAL with a "star" but 36 wins? No.

Glass is more than half-full IMO.

It should be engraved on his tombstone.

I love how DumbBo thinks that 48 wins in the 3rd year of a rebuild is supposed to be an indictment of Ainge's performance.
