to be fair, I always take th ese kind of promises with a grain of salt. Not that I don't believe Danny or the front office, but it always takes two to make a deal. We have the meeting with Durant, Howard, and probably Horford but at the end they decide where they want to go. You can't blame Danny for pitching to these players. If it was never in their mind that they were choosing Boston, no matter what Boston does, they won't come here. With that being said, I am completely fine if we don't get Durant or others, as I do like the idea of going through a real rebuild, drafting players, developing players and improving year by year/ Danny thusfar has proven has can trade for quality players. He may not have a good track record of drafting but hey, he's only really been in the lottery 3 times
Jeff Green - shipped to Seattle for Ray Ray
Smart - not a star at #6, but a very great young defensive player. I have high hopes for him, still do, but I am willing to accept the fact he will never be the star or offensive player I hope him to be, and I am fine with that, as long as he keeps playing defense the way he plays and shows up at big moments that he has shown
Jaylen Brown - tbd but I like the pick
Now his other drafts in the teens and later has been mixed, he drafted good role players and missed some players, and also drafted some busts
Sully at 21 has been a solid pick
Bradley at 16 has been a solid pick
Kelly Olynyk has been a solid pick, but yes I know we missed Giannis, but I'm not p---ed over that, so did a lot of people.
I know Young is a bust, Fab Melo is a bust, but hey most of the drafts that Danny has been in where we have two picks in the first round, the first pick has been all solid picks while the second ones are usually busts. Not perfect and I think this is an area he can improve. But I hope Jaylen ends up being a redeeming pick for Danny that for once he drafted right and shut the haters up.
Going forward, we have a great and exciting young team, and the fact that Durant/Howard has granted us meetings has kinda prove that Boston can be a FA destination for tier1 and tier2 FAs. If Durant chooses to sign with another team not named Boston (which I think he will, some reason, I have an weird feeling that Durant leaves OKC but stays in the West, signs with either GSW or probably the Clippers, don't know why I have this feeling), then I really wish Danny doesn't make a panic signing just to please the fanbase that we can sign a star but at an obnoxious price. Say we miss on Durant, I don't want to see Danny sign Horford or Howard for something obscene like 25 mil per or more. I rather make smart financial decisions to retain our own while signing other good role players, make a couple more trades, and continuing growing this team
We're one of the youngest teams last year in the playoffs if not the youngest. We're still growing and most of our main players hasn't even reached their peak yet. Idk where this team will go, but I do want to find out. 3 - 4 years ago, who would've guessed the Warriors would grow into this current power house? Nobody. Nobody could've predicted Curry to be this good despite his early injury woes, nobody could've predicted Green to be a superstar, everyone thought the Warriors were stupid to not make a Klay for Love trade, and they end up winning the championship that very next year.
I am not saying we are the Warriors, I'm saying is trust the process, have some patience. Maybe our team will grow to be a great team. LeBron is 32 at the end of this year, how long do you think he has until father time catches up to him?Say in 4-5 years, LeBron is 37, where for most players, the injuries starts nagging him, players slowing down, but for our team, most of our players will just hit their peak. Smart will only be 27 28. Brown will be 24, nowhere near his peak. Bradley and Crowder will be 30 and Thomas will be 31/32. That would be a team entering their prime and with the King on his way out.
I think we should be more patient with this current team, let them grow, grow with the team!
