First ring chaser emerges:

Quote
@daldridgetnt

David West to the Warriors on a one-year deal, per source, for vet minimum.
durant was the first ring chaser.  Then zaza.  Now west.
Apparently Perk and Ray Allen (yes, Ray Allen) are two names they are going to target next.

This is a speculation more than a rumour but it makes sense to me

http://allaboutknicks.sportsblog.com/posts/21044537/nba-rumor--could-d-wade-go-to-cleveland-now-.html

If Cleveland wants to unload Love to create cap space for Wade, I would give up the 2018 Brooklyn pick for him. Horford and Love would be a versatile front court. Add Hayward next offseason while keeping Crowder as a sixth man, and we could compete for the championship if a few of our young guys develop into solid role players.

We have the cap space and everything right now to absorb Love. We NEED to get in on this deal, because we can get it done without losing any parts of our main core.

http://www.tsn.ca/report-cavs-in-early-talks-with-wade-1.521278

Cavs having preliminary talks with Wade.  Come on, Danny, get involved!
all they need to do is dump the contacts of shumpert and frye.  We could send them Amir and jerebko's unguaranteed contracts if you REALLY want that.   Maybe they will toss in a 1st.

Somebody explain how the Cavs can get Wade? Can they sign Wade first into their 21 million cap space and then sign James using Bird rights? Or do they need to clear enough for both?

I will take Love to help them get Wade. I would even throw in one of our rotation guys.

The only realistic way is to trade Love via some sign-and-trade. Everything else involves him or Lebron taking massive, massive pay cuts, which isn't happening.

What about getting rid of shumpert and Frye like Lbrrd33 said?

If you assume that LeBron is getting the max, trading Love is by far the better option.  Cleveland will be subject to the hard cap.  If they trade Love for Wade at $20 million, they will have just over $10 million left before the hard cap, and 5 roster spots to fill.  If they trade Shunpert and Frye, they will have under $7 million to fill 6 roster spots.  They can do that with 6 minimum players, but that's it.  Furthermore, Miami would undoubtedly want better compensation than Frye and Shumpert for Wade, so that's it's own separate problem.

Can Cleveland do it? Barely.  But the mechanics for all parties make more sense if it's Love.

I'm not assuming that.   I'm assuming that Wade and LeBron, being BFF's who make a ton of money as-is, would both split the roughly 40 million in cap space they'd have by dumping Shump, Frye and the excess contracts.

Doesn't work that way. That requires both of them to take major, major pay cuts, which isn't happening. There's also other issues that he's not considering in that line of argument.

Well, there's your problem. Lebron has never showed any inkling of the willingness to take a paycut. It's not going to happen, and Wade isn't going to take even less there than the Heat offer when he's demanding quite a bit more than the Heat offer already.

Diaw to Utah (Spurs clearing enough room to sign Pau Gasol).

They're going to be tough this year. They're going all in on making the playoffs and trying to keep Hayward next summer.

Let's see --

Hill, Hood, Hayward, Favors, Gobert

Bench - Exum, Burks, Joe, Diaw, Lyles

Yeah, that's a pretty solid team (50+ wins) if they stay healthy.

That's going to be a team in the West that will give the Warriors some trouble with matchups. They've got good perimeter D and excellent interior D, not to mention being very long and athletic.

Not a single all-star on their roster. If we chide our team because of our "starlessness," then they don't get a pass.

But in all seriousness, I love the team concepts they have in place. They desperately need Exum to become a reliable scorer. A steady diet of Hayward and Favors can only go so far.

This is demonstrably false. LeBron left millions on the table to go to Miami.

They'll be a nice team, but I disagree with Jpotter here, they won't have a prayer against the Warriors.

Neither Hayward nor Favors nor Gobert has a hope of adequately defending Durant or Draymond.  Hill is a solid defender to put on Curry or Thompson, but that leaves the other one to be covered by Hood, Exum, Burkes, or Joe, which sounds like a recipe for a lot of good looks from deep.

The Warriors really neutered their only plausible competition in the conference by signing Durant.  Teams will need extreme, cumulative length and athleticism to give the Warriors trouble.  Even then, they'll be praying for injuries or a Draymond suspension to make the matchup something closer to fair.

That's majorly different than the type of pay cut that we're talking about here. He still got his max or near-max salary in Miami. You're talking about a difference of roughly $8M per year. Yeah, not happening, and not should it if you're Lebron.

Title-hunter David West to sign with GSW.  The anti-Robert Horry goes for a title with the clear favorite.

To be fair, I said matchup problems, not necessarily beating them in a seven game series or even several games.
