Just Riley being Riley. He's going to go after Durant hard trying to convince him to "take his talents to South Beach". His thinking is we still have Wade's bird rights he'll just fall in line regardless. In some ways he's right. I could see Wade taking a little less if Durant signed. It would kill me if Wade bolted after Durant spurns him tho.
It's not that simple though. To just sign Whiteside they need to sign Wade below market value. To also sign Durant he'd need to take a massive pay cut. His bird rights come with a very large cap hold. They may end up with no Durant, no Wade, just Whiteside

I'm astounded that none of the other 29 teams in the NBA have given Sullinger -- or Zeller -- an offer sheet. Even if only to mess with Ainge's ability to go after major FAs.

Because they stink!

Because it wouldn't mess with Ainge's ability at all.  If they sign him to an offer sheet, their cap space is tied up for three days while the Celtics debate what to do.  The Celtics, on the other hand, would just have the normal cap hold that they already have.  And really, since they can't submit that offer sheet until July 7th, it'd be nearly a week the other team would have to keep the cap space available, perhaps only to see it ultimately be wasted if the Celtics match.  Unless you know you've got nothing better to do with the money (Nets, Mavs), you might as well wait until the best unrestricted free agents are gone, especially if some of their RFA's might become unrestricted themselves before long.

I thought the offer sheet would also hit the Celtics' books, until Boston decided to formally match, or not. That's not the case?

There are worse players in the league who have reportedly received major offers.

They can't actually sign any offer sheets until the 7th, right? By then, all major free agents will be gone.

Harrison Barnes update: Sources say Golden State will renounce him to make him unrestricted free agent but Dallas full steam ahead on Barnes

Without the risk of Golden State matching, I wonder if teams will still be inclined to give him the full max contract.

This is a speculation more than a rumour but it makes sense to me

If Cleveland wants to unload Love to create cap space for Wade, I would give up the 2018 Brooklyn pick for him. Horford and Love would be a versatile front court. Add Hayward next offseason while keeping Crowder as a sixth man, and we could compete for the championship if a few of our young guys develop into solid role players.

I don't think we're matching any multi-year offers for those two, so all this would achieve is taking their cap hold off.

We have the cap space and everything right now to absorb Love. We NEED to get in on this deal, because we can get it done without losing any parts of our main core.
