I really am not a fan of Noel. I don't see potential for him on offense at all. It'd be grabbing the "rim protector" that won't actually make this team much better.
it better be with another first rounder and saric coming back cause noel is hot garbage and doesn't do crap for the celtics.
Noel is actually a younger and better version of DeAndre Jordan. Not much for offense but with space and pace, he's the perfect 5 and most importantly DEFENSIVE anchor in our system.
Better than DeAndre Jordan?
Compare their stats by age and he's clearly a better all-around player than DJ, and I love DJ.
I don't see Noel suddenly making the leap to being a 14 rpg player, but that's just me.
It's not as crazy as you think. Look at their stats compared side-by-side:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&y1=2016&p1=noelne01&y2=2011&p2=jordade01&p3=&p4=&p5=&p6=.
This is the first year DJ got actual big minutes, so I used that year instead of the exact same age when he only played 16 minutes. So DJ is actually a year older in this comparison than Noel.
Per-36: Total Rebounds - DJ at 10.1, NN at 9.9. Defensive Rebounds - DJ at 6.5, NN at 7.1. Offensive Rebounds - DJ at 3.6, NN at 2.8.
Total Rebounding Percentage: DJ at 16.5, NN at 15.0.
Defensive Rebounding Percentage: DJ at 20.9, NN at 22.2.
Offensive Rebounding Percentage: DJ at 11.9, NN at 8.2.
So, overall, they're very similar rebounders in their overall ability. DJ is a better offensive rebounder; whereas, Noel is a better defensive rebounder. How much of the offensive rebounding is due to scheme is still questionable, too, because remember that Noel was sharing the court with Okafor a lot of times, so he was more out on the perimeter to allow space for Okafor to work offensively down low, which would undoubtedly skew the numbers a bit.
