What is Utah doing?

Utah has been trying to trade for veteran help for 2-3 years now. They have lots of youth and believe they need to surround them with some veterans who know to win this league. Guys who are leaders.

Youth = Gobert, Hood, Exum, Lyles.
Hayward, Favors and Burks are all still pretty young too.

They tried to trade their draft picks last year too. Just couldn't find the right deal.

Utah's FO and owners are sick of rebuilding. They don't want more youth. They don't want players that will need a few years before being ready to contribute. They want guys who can step in now and help now. Who can help their young core grow.

I think Jeff Teague is a much better player than George Hill but I don't think he would have fit in well in Utah.

Utah's PG there doesn't get to stay on the ball anywhere near as much as Teague got to Atlanta. Having two stretch bigs (Horford, Millsap) allowed Teague much more time on the ball to probe and pick apart opposing defenses. Playing with two interior bigs (Gobert, Favors) forces the ball to move more. Too easy for opposing defenses to load up on a PG when he is holding onto the ball for long periods of time. Hayward and Hood both need a lot more touches on the wings too versus Korver and Bazemore.

I think Teague's effectiveness was greatly aided by the offensive system he played in Indiana and would have decreased hugely if forced to play in a system like Utah's. Despite Teague being the more talented player than George Hill, I don't think Teague would have added more to that Jazz than G.Hill will due to the problematic fit.

I think Hill is a better fit for how Utah play. He'll help the team to continue their defensive identity and fit better in their offensive system than Teague would have since Hill is more comfortable off the ball than Teague is.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dennis Schroeder get the chance to be a starting point guard.  He's still a bit raw, but he's got a ton of talent.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

So all Atlanta got for Teague was 12 in a thin draft?

Wow.

Not really a wow.... Thats pretty good.     He is on an expiring.   And they have DS stepping up a PG.

Terrible return. Definitely would not have made that move, especially if you're trying to spin the pick. Ol' Technicolor Hair is weird, and unstable as your prime point guard. Don't like his game at all.

What does hair have to do with being a good player? Do you.

Strange human beings rarely make great players. I don't like him, and I don't like his game. Way too easy to goad into a meltdown.

Geesh, hes about to be a full time starter. I guess that would make him a hell of a lot less strange than you.

If #12 gets you Teague, then the market value of #3 is looking quite good!

exactly what I was thinking.... #3 has to get you an all-star or would be allstar in okafor and another player

I think you can get an All-Star with a contract similar to Teague (one year left) from a team that is a motivated seller.

Best part of this deal value wise.

Indy got better but not a huge upgrade.

I have to think ATL is thinking of stripping it down. Or they really do trust Schroeder that much. #12 for Teague seems like a bad deal though.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Did Bazemore and Millsap just become available?

I thought you couldn't trade 2016 picks until tomorrow?

Trade makes sense to me.

Last year Bird didn't like that his team played so many bigs and didn't play fast. His solution was to get a new coach and trade for a pg who is best in an uptempo offense.

Utah wants to make the playoffs this year, 12 wasn't going to help them do that. Their offense revolves around their wings doing most of the ball handling. They added a guy who is great at guarding 1's, can really shoot and doesn't dominate the ball. More importantly Hill will help them make the playoffs next year.

Atlanta was going to move on from Teague and didn't think they would get more than the 12th pick for him.

Win/Win/Win.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Isn't Bazemore a free agent?

Hill wasn't a FA last season. Maybe you're confusing him with Monta Ellis?
