When we all did the CB Mock deadline, I had indy and traded for Teague. It just makes so much sense, so happy I can say I "saw this coming" months ago lol.

Whoopty doo, they miss out on the chance to draft a role player in a shallow draft. They'll live.

LOL.... dude... I know the franchise will keep existing.... what are you even talking about?  They're just going to be getting worse and never make it over the hump.

Trading the #12 pick for a veteran point guard when it's pretty known that:

a) you needed point guard help
b) you weren't really interested in actually drafting another rookie

makes all the sense in the world. You keep talking in absolutes as though they're making some huge investment. Dude, they gave up a late lottery pick in a shallow draft for a guy with an expiring contract. This isn't making them worse. This isn't supposed to help them "make it over the hump." It's supposed to help them make the playoffs. They're not in a championship or bust mentality. They haven't even made the playoffs in four years.

You're really wrong about this draft.  You say it's shallow but the reality is it's just top loaded then flat.  There are going to be good players to come out of this draft past 8 or so because (even arguably after like 3-4) the talent level and potential is very similar.  Again, give me a Sabonis over Hill.

And again, George Hill is not a valuable player (never mind that they already have like 6 guards to play).   PG is so deep.  Hill adds nothing.

And you're reasoning is great for mediocrity and teams that have low goals.  I never think that way.  More power to them (and zero possible championships, never mind even being a contender).

Last time George Hill was traded, it was for the #15 pick.  I guess he's improved a little since then.

Maybe this trade will turn out just as well as that one!

Is Dante Exum moving to shooting guard?

maybe George Hill moving to shooting guard

Hill's more of a two offensively and a one defensively.  Exum is the reverse.

My reasoning follows how the NBA works. Sorry, but the 2008 Celtics going from worst-to-first is pretty much entirely unheard of in the NBA. There isn't a single other team that won the title in the last 20 years that did so without making the playoffs in at least the prior two seasons -- and the vast majority of those teams flamed out in the first or second round in one of those seasons. Constructing a championship team is a process. It's not like microwaving instant grits.

Non-playoff team -> playoff team -> contender -> title winner is the general sense of progression. You seem to be thinking Utah should just be looking to make moves that instantly get them from non-playoff team to contender when that's not how the NBA has historically operated.

I get that the Hawks felt that they had two starting PGs in Teague and Schroeder, but giving Teague for #12?? Wow!!

Too bad nobody wants to make a deal with Danny anymore... ::)

Oops, correction - the Cavs and the '99 Spurs are the other teams to win the title without two prior playoff appearances. So I guess you have a point about Utah reaching for the low-hanging fruit since they weren't willing to clone their version of LeBron James and sign him in free agency or get the first pick and draft the new Tim Duncan in an injury-plagued year. ;)

I'm kinda getting that feeling...Danny is known to 'win' all his trades and I think some GMs are quite leery of that.

This trade I think is great news for the Celtics.  The market for draft picks are starting to be set now.  I know it was a 3-team trade, but it was basically Jeff Teague for the #12 pick.  And if a player like Jeff Teague nets you only the #12 pick, Ainge can now immediately reference this deal when trying to deal the #3 pick.

"only" the 12th pick? Seems like an entirely fair price for an above-average at the very best starting point guard who can leave after the season. It's not like Atlanta sold low on the guy.

Basically the same George Hill trade as the one that landed him in Indiana, just with three teams instead of two.

Mid first round low lottery is worth a quality starter.

for all of us who believed Hoopcritic.com stating that Hayward wanted out - Here's a Tweet regarding  the matter:

Jody Genessy @DJJazzyJody
I will say this much re: Gordon Hayward and the Jazz. He is extremely competitive, badly wants to win and the team needs more talent.
10:52 AM - 22 Jun 2016

Therefore they trade to get George Hill...
does George Hill = more talent?

It's a great trade for the C's because it means that Horford is less likely to stick around.  #12 can get them a nice player, but not someone likely to be a contributor in yearn1.
