It is pretty common to not see the big deals until draft night. This has nothing to do with wanting to trade with Danny. No one is trading with anyone.

Yup.

I do believe the report in so far as Ainge hasn't been able to land much traction getting an all-star caliber player for the 3rd pick. That's what he's trying for, a Ray Allen type deal. But that didn't happen till the draft anyways so its not over yet.

Still unless the Bulls fully commit to blow it up I don't see a partner that makes too much sense for the third pick. Even then Butler is young enough to be around for the other side of a retooling/rebuild.

Which still baffles the heck out of me that Chicago would even want to move him (if any of these reports are true).

If its really a power play thing, move on from Hoiberg, not Butler.

If the rumors are true, Philly is willing to give up Okafor or Noel for #3.

I expect to see us trade #3 for Okafor.  Only hold-up is that we'd prefer to move the pick for an established star or a solid established shooter like Middleton.  That, and we need to first see if Simmons or Ingram falls.

Otherwise, get hyped.

Legit possibility.

I would love to see what Okafor could do with a very good point guard...IT.

IT is a great PG. His problem is he forces a lot of shots because he feels an undue offensive burden. Okafor would take some of the offensive load off him--make him a better PG. He would provide the 2nd option the Celtics need--and inside scoring they lack. In that sense, he is a better choice than Noel.

The Okafor/Noel situation was muddled by Philly last year when they tried to play both at the same time. So you can't go by their production during that time.

This 'two player draft' thing is draft analyst garbage talk, especially considering Simmons and Ingram are not Towns, Lebron, or Duncan like at all. Oden was also a guaranteed superstar too right? There will certainly be all-stars outside of the top 2, and there is a significant chance that one or both of the top 2 will be busts. GMs know this, it is how pretty much all drafts go.

Heck, Ainge almost gave away our stash of picks for Justice Winslow last year, which itself was crazy, AND MJ turned it down, for Kaminsky , which is even crazier! And you know what? Neither of those two players were ever rated as top tier in the draft 'experts' analysis. GMs laugh at those analyses, their actions show that clearly.

The two player draft thing is not garbage talk, and your comparisons to Towns, Lebron and Duncan, as well as your inclusion of Oden, actually make the point.

Towns - #1 overall
Lebron - #1 overall
Duncan - #1 overall
Oden #1 overall, career destroyed by injuries, followed by Durant at #2

It's the reality of the draft.  The monster prospects are gone quickly, if they even exist in a given year.  This year doesn't have the monster prospects that would have driven a Simmons or Ingram down lower.  It's a 2 player draft at the top, and that pair isn't all that hot in comparison to some years.
