Whiteside averaged a slash line of 14/12 and also averaged close to 4 blocks a game. 4 blocks!!!

No, Whiteside alone won't make us legitimate contenders, but combine Whiteside with signing another shooter (like Dudley or Bazemore) and/or signing or trading for an impactful player (pray for Durant) and it is a huge step forward for this organization.

That being said, even just signing Whiteside as our biggest move this offseason would probably push us across 50 wins this season, and could also hurt Miami after they lose him (unless the Heat sign or trade for another star).

Whiteside would fill a lot of our needs and provide both interior scoring and defensive pressure in the paint that we are sorely lacking. People can say Whiteside doesn't like Smart after the flopping incident and Olynyk (after they got in a tussle and Whiteside elbowed Olynyk). But I thought the Red Sox had no chance at David Price because of his issues with Ortiz and wallah... Here he is.

So how much would you offer Whiteside? I would personally do something like 4 years/76M. I don't think he is worth a max but a near-max, and I doubt Miami can offer him a max even if Wade takes a huge pay cut (And I think he will take a modest one but not a huge one). So thoughts?

I don't think he has the level maturity that the Celtics would want out of a major piece to this team.

I think he'd be a great pairing with Bender.
Would do the dirty work while Bender orchestrates from the high post.

Could be a pretty dynamic duo.
That said, not max. And since someone else will offer max...

My preference on who to get (ranked from favorite to least favorite)

1. Pau Gasol (I wish)
2. Dwight Howard (Not at Max)
3. Hassan Whiteside
4. Jahlil Okafor
5. Al Horford (Not worth Max)

I think Whiteside is on the short list of who Danny was speaking of a month ago when he was talking of 'getting a rim protector'......"overpaying a little".

There are risks, (mailing it in (like Hibbert) after getting paid, is one), but when I factor in the big upside of acquiring talent w/o giving up assets, talent that fits a major Celtics need, and that Whiteside (26) fits our team timeline, I'm all for it.  I trust our team culture, and CBS' ability to lead and manage.

I think we're going to make a run at Whiteside, especially if Danny doesn't have an unlikely trade in store (Gasol, Cousins).

It's possible Memphis makes Gasol available, as they could ask for #3 and their 2019 Memphis Pick and some more, which would be a good deal for them.

I think Ainge could have been referring to Whiteside or even Dwight Howard also (there were rumors the Celtics looked into Howard at the deadline before staying pat)

With all of the liquidity out there, some team will offer the max.

I'd seriously consider the max. Not because it's his ideal price, but there are a lot of factors working in that deal's favor:

1) His max is relatively lower due to years experience

2) This summer is a good time to lock players up before the cap goes insane next summer. His contract won't look so expensive when someone gets $35M/year

3) He's 26 and healthy

4) We have the coaching talent to utilize unique weapons like Whiteside

5) He performed in the playoffs

6) He improved his free throws

7) Great perimeter defense + great shotblocking could be a lethal combo, even if Whiteside isn't a great team defender

8) His raw numbers are All-Star level. I'm definitely an advanced stats guy, but 14/12/4 on 9 shots and no need to call plays for him is hard to deny

9) We have the money - unless there's a clearly better option, spending it on a very high upside guy makes some sense

Yeah in a few years from now Whiteside's deal will look like one of below market-value (crazy to think now).

I'm perfectly fine if Whiteside keeps up with the 14/12/4 numbers that's just what the Celtics need, and it would be an added bonus if he goes say... 16+/12/4. Under Stevens he will become even better and hopefully a culture change makes him more mature.

The the four or five PPG he orchestrated last season per game?

The thing is this kid is so skinny, not athletic and would be better suited to being a maestro in an orchestra than the 3rd pick.

One year max with team option second year.

Max....

If you really want to sign him....

That's what he'll want or his agent.

Thinking less will be a dream.......Thompson on Cavs sucks and gets a max
