This draft class is just so deep through the 1st round that I have a hard time slotting Lavert in. I'm sure he can carve out a role in the NBA, and my favorite thing about him is the quick release on his jump shot. Still:
-He doesn't have any upside to be more than a shooting specialist who can defend his position and keep the ball moving on offense. It's nice that he can play some PG, but it's not like he's ever going to create at a high level off the dribble. He isn't a great athlete, his handle isn't advanced, and he isn't much of a shooter off the dribble.
-He carries significant injury risk, even if nothing pops up on his physical, so he doesn't make up for his low ceiling by being "safe."

Lavert will still get drafted, but probably not by the Celtics who won't want to spend a roster slot on him, and probably not in the first round.

Yeah that really impressed me. I understand the risk with him and the physical is going to count for a lot. If he comes out clean it would be nice to get a guy at #31 who has quite a high floor.

Like everything with the draft it's going to be dependent on whether we manage to swing a trade. If we do and there are roster spots available, Levert in the early 2nd round would be a real nice investment for the future.Who knows what will happen with our current guards in a few years and at#31 we wouldn't be using a high pick to provide the cover

So Levert has been quite forward with the fact that he'll be completely open to any physicals teams wish to do one him. Assuming they raise no red flags I assume he will rise up the draft boards. But how high? He's unlikely to go in the lottery at this stage but if we needed to grab him at 16 over a guy like Valentine or Luwawu then would you still take him?

I think he'd be a really nice guard off the bench in the NBA, kind of like a poor mans Livingston but with better range

I love Levert.  I first posted about him being a sleeper candidate for the 2014 draft (before the 2013-2014 college season began).  I would be shocked if he were gone before we pick at #23, however.  The surgery he had in March has a 4-6 month recovery time, and does not have a 100% success rate, so while doctors will be able to assess how he's progressing, they will not be able to determine its success.  Furthermore, he will not be able to demonstrate any skills or coachability in workouts.

That said, as I've mentioned before (in the appropriate thread), he is my draft binkie.  I would really like him at #23, and if he's on the board when we pick at #31, I will be livid if he is not selected then.   He's really a very versatile player on both offense and defense, and is someone who could start for a decade in the NBA.  If his foot heals.

Apparently, the boot is now off :).

Umm, he's an excellent passer and is at least a pretty good ball handler.  Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to execute his step back jumper.  I agree that he might not be a 'great' athlete, but he is a very good one who is probably more smooth than athletic, and his length really makes him a problem, defensively, which is why he has been able to bother point guards, iirc.  The guy is a heck of a player.

decent enough prospect to consider depending on who's also still available at #35 or #45
