You'd be crazy to. Noel is due a massive pay increase next summer. If you make this trade you basically say bye bye to FA in 2017

Right. Let's not ever add good players because god forbid we may need to actually pay them.

Honestly I think it's pretty even value, Smart may be the the better player right now but Noel is more of a need. So I voted yes but it's a very close call.

Maybe. Probably.

Positives:
(1) Looking at the roster, this team needs Noel far more than it needs Smart. KO kicks out to be a stretch 4 (when we go big) or Jae fills that roll when we go small (or even Hortford from 15 feet). Draft someone like Murray or Hield and you've got a guy out there on the wing along with Bradley who are 3 point shooters. The floor would open up wonderfully for IT to drive and play the pick and roll game with Noel.
(2) Big > Little. Always has been, always will be.
(3) Noel has produced a bit more on the court. Their advanced stats aren't too far off but Noel has been the better guy thus far.

Negatives:
(1) I think Smart may be the better long term player. He's gotta work on his offensive game but if he can even average 15ppg he'll be an incredible player for us.
(2) Noel's health is a concern.
(3) I really like Smart's energy and leadership.

Note that I didn't mention cap space. It's because at this point it's not that strong of a factor. The Cs have an overabundance of cap space and the cap is going to climb even more next year. It's not that I'm willing to waste it but at this point I'm more concerned with putting the best 5 on the floor.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Ah hello again. You really are the snarkiest poster on here. Clearly that was what I was saying...

Trading for Noel is fine as long as you understand you are going to have to pay him. That means you think the team as currently constructed will need only Noel and a few supplementary pieces to challenge Lebron.

If you are trading Smart, which I wouldn't do, then trade for Okafor who is on a cost controlled contract and use the cap space to add a true max player to the roster either this summer or next

Noel has played in 14 more games than Smart has the last two years.  Not sure I'd call Noel's health a concern if Smart's isn't.  Wouldn't Noel be as likely to get to 15 ppg as Smart and wouldn't that be more valuable?

I voted no.  What we should really, do, imo, is trade Smart and Young to the Sixers for their two firsts at 24 and 26, and if we could get their second rounder for next year, do it, but 24 and 26 would be great.

you see Noel as worth less than the 2 more late first round picks?

We already have 4 picks in the 16-35 range this year. Do we really need 2 more? Smart for 2 late firsts is the opposite of asset consolidation.

It's not as much about Noel as it is about the depth of this draft (which is loaded, imo), and yes, we do need 2 more firsts.  I'm not interested in asset consolidation.  We need a whole new roster, and Smart for those picks would be fair for both teams, right?  I'll admit, I don't like Smart, but I don't think I'm undervaluing him, although that is probably an unpopular opinion on here.  I realize that he was the 6th pick in the draft, but I think we can get better players than him at 23, 24, and 26.

I'd do the trade, but I do think both players are overrated by their respective fanbases.

If their guy wasn't going to get paid sooner than our guy, it would be a coin flip.

As it is... no.

This is out of hand. "We need a whole new roster" really? You badly overrate draft picks. 90% of picks in the 20's do not become starting caliber NBA players.

BEAT LA!! Your back! Of course, it's draft time after all.

Smart is worth WAY more than two very late 1sts, that's such a ridiculous notion I won't even address it.

Great to have you back man.
