Ainge is arguably the best transactional GM in the NBA. As a drafter, he's more middle of the pack. His European scouting (or lack there of) in particular, has been weak.

Very interesting Eja, let's discuss!!!

Note: I am probably arguing many points that other have brought up already.

Is he a heavy hitter or is he kinda a guy that gets on base? I don't think he's a strike out kinda guy.

Let's take a look

2003
13 M Banks....ground out to short
27 Perk....double
58 Brandon Hunter...considering he picked 58th....fouled off a lot before striking out

Perk is much better than a double. He was drafted #27 out of HS. He was the starter C on three teams which went to the finals with 1 title in 2007. That's a clear HR in my book.

2004
15 Al Jefferson....triple..although Josh Smith was on the board
25 Tony Allen...double
24 Delonte...RBI single  (Kevin Martin was available)
41 Justin Reed....ground out....Trevor Ariza was there

I agree that TA was a double for the Cs career. Taking his whole career into account, he's another late pick, #25 overall, which was a HR.

He was a major role player on a title team, started on perennial playoff team MEM, and 4x All-Defensive Teams (3x 1stTeam).

2005
18 Gerald Green....went swinging for the fences. Struck out (but managed to trade him. Danny Granger was picked one pick earlier. ....players missed....Nate Robinson, Jarret Jack, Linas Kleiza, David Lee, Ersan Ilyasova, Louis Williams, Monta Ellis)
50 Ryan Gomes...single...Andray Blatche was picked one pick earlier
53 Orien Greene ....strike out..Amir Johnson, Marin Gortat were drafted after.

So this year was just horrid. Horrid.

Spot on here. Ryan Gomes was probably a bunt single.

2006
21 Rondo....3 RBI home run (Kyle Lowry and Paul Milsap were available).
49 Powe...double

Awesome draft. His best ever.

I love Powe. He's more of a single.

2007
Jeff Green. ...traded. Doesn't count
32 Gabe Pruitt...double play
35 Big Baby...double

players picked after Big Baby....Marc Gasol. Ramon Sessions. Josh McRoberts

Agreed.

2008
30 Jr Giddens
60 Semih Erden

Danny was gonna draft DeAndre Jordan....but then he got high. Na na na na. He was gonna take DeAndre Jordan....but then he got hiiigggh

Let's not talk about 2008....ever.

Agreed.

2009
58 Lester Hudson at 58.  Basically doesn't count

Agreed.

2010
19 Avery Bradley....double....Eric Bledsoe picked one spot earlier.
52 Luke Harongody. Player got called up from triple A for one game and fouled out pop out

We are entering new territory. The book is not closed on AB by a long shot. I feel a double is a little low for a #19 pick who has been starting for 4 of his six seasons. He may end up becoming a HR like TA or just solidify his position as a good/solid NBA player. If I has to guess, I would say he will end up with a Courtney Lee type career.

2011
27 JuJuan Johnson....triple play ground out...players available....Norris Cole, Corey Joseph, Jimmy Butler, Bojan Bogdanovic, Kyle Singler, Shelvin Mack, Chandler Parsons, Jon Leur, Lavoy Allen
55 Etwaun Moore....ground out.....available....Isaiah Thomas

Another horrid horrid horrid year

TripleJ was an awful pick, even at 27. We all knew it at the time to.  E'Twaun's a bunt single in my book.

2012
21 Sully....single
22 Fab Melo.........ground out triple play, then got in fight with umpire and was suspended
available...Tony Wroten, Ezeli, Jae Crowder, Draymond Green, Kris Middleton, Kyle O'Quinn

51 Kris Joseph...strike out...Robert Sacre was there

Another horridly unspeakable draft

Sully's a single, with the batter taking second on a throwing error.  I can't even talk about Fab.

2013
13 KO...single...coulda had Giannis, Dennis Schroeder, Dieng, Mason Plumlee, Rudy Gobert,

Another draft we are just better off not talking about

As a player in any other draft KO's a single, perhaps a double without all the injuries. For the purpose of you post, he's a triple play out. The reason is that the Cs were linked to both Schroder and Giannis well before the draft, especially Giannis. I still remember the moment when it was reported that the Cs traded up into DAL spot and it came out that they selected KO!!!! I was horrified. In the presser after the draft Danny was like, 'yeah, KO's can be an role player in this league'. I almost lost it. It was like he settled on KO b/c he was a safe boring pick when it was clear Giannis could be special.

2014
6 Smart...single
17 James Young...double play...coulda had Gary Harris, Clint Cappella, Rodney Hood, Jordan Clarkson,

This is getting very difficult b/c we only have two season to judge these players on. Smart is more of a double at the moment. He will be a HR one day.

James Young is at least a bunt single b/c of this:

Seriously, this is me:

2015
16 Rozier...single...picked over Justin Anderson, Bobby Portis, RHJ
28 RJ Hunter....maybe a single, maybe a ground out
33 Jordan Mickey...maybe a single
45 Marcus Thornton...strike out....next pick was Normal Powell

I can't argue with anything here. It's just waaaaay too early. I do kind of like Rozier.

***************************************

Overall, Danny is very good at judging college talent, especially pt & combo guards. Of his best guard picks; Rondo, Rozier, Smart, Bradly, and Tony Allen, only Marcus was picked in the lottery.

Danny doesn't have a good track record on International talent. He got cold feet with Giannis, going with a 4 year college guy over a super young international wing.

Danny's best hits on big men were risky HS picks in Big Al & Perk.

Interestingly enough, he doesn't have any hits on SFs. G$ was his best selection there.

In relation to the #3 pick, history suggest Danny will go with the safer pick. Which for Danny is a college combo guard, whoever he like better of Hield, Murray, or Dunn.

Danny lack of success draft for a wing suggests he wont take Jaylen Brown.

Danny's history also suggests that if he feels the team needs to take a risk here then he is likely to follow his two previous risk bets which paid off the most,  selecting two super young HS bigs in Big Al and Perk. This leads to the Cs taking Dragan Bender... or perhaps the late rising Marquese Chriss.

Hold on here.

If Tony Allen is a homerun what is Jimmy Butler or Jordan Clarkson or Isaiah Thomas? A mafia guy that sneaks up on the pitcher and convinces him to throw a wild pitch in the 3rd and 5th innings, while throwing the game?

So far, IT has put together a 2-3 run HR career based on the fact the he was the 60th selection and is an All Star.

To this point in his career, Jimmy Butler is also 2-3 run HR.  His resume is better than IT's; 2 time All Star, 2 time All NBA second team, and 2014/15 Most Improved Player. The reason I would put them both in the same bracket is b/c he was a first round pick, 30 spots higher than IT. Regardless, for both that's quite a lot in only 5 years.

It's difficult to compare 35 y/o Tony Allen a second year guy like Jordan Clarkson. He looks like a Hr. I am not sure. After 2 seasons on a horrible tanking Fakers team, he feels more like a triple or double-taking 3d on a throwing error. It's still unclear to me if he's a legit starter or career backup, e.g. Jeremy Lin or Lou Williams.
