A major concern about Bender and Maker is they haven't played against top college competition.
Bender has the advantage of playing in the Israeli league, but that was as a part time player.
I don't know how much of a big deal this is for a freshman who has played a year of top college ball as a starter. Maybe it is.
I was curious about where Garnett was drafted in '95. Kevin was drafted #5 overall out of high school. He turned out to be the best player in the draft by far. At least one team, the Wolves, was able to throw the dice on a kid with freakish athletic ability for his height.
Ainge, of course, knows all this. I wonder if he sees any KG in Maker? Is that enough to make him roll the dice? I suspect he knows Maker will not be there at 16. As for Bender, the template is Porzingis. Chances are, that is what you're getting, and Porzingis had a nice first season--better than expected. He can shoot over everybody from the perimeter. And he can rebound and block shots just on his height advantage.
Unless Danny has a deal in place for a veteran big, I would go with either of these kids. I think Maker has the bigger upside. The other kid I would be happy with is Chriss.
