Am I the only one confused by Ford thinking the Celtics would go after Murray? I'm a draft-the-best-player-available guy but is he that much better than anyone else in that tier that we're going to take another combo guard with Thomas, Bradley, Smart, and Rozier on the roster already?

He would create a logjam for sure, but he brings elite shooting which is something we don't currently have.

Am I the only one having James Young flashbacks? No one is concerned about drafting another "great shooter" from Kentucky?

They're different people.  Booker played well last year and he wasn't the college player Murray was.

I think Murray has a good chance to emerge as a premier SG similar to the way Booker has. From a shooting perspective Murray shot and made tougher 3 point shots than Booker ever had to take with the amazing team he had. Murray also has shown as a better athlete with a better ability to finish around the rim and a significantly better ballhandler at this stage of his career. People say Hield is the best jumpshooter, but I disagree. Murray's elevation on his shot and sweet stroke are things that I  believe will translate. With Hield's stroke, like Hunter's, his release is kind of low and he doesn't get great elevation on his jumpshot either. Probably just as good of a finisher as Murray is around the rim.

James Young was not a great shooter.  My main concern would be drafting a player who is similar to Young on defense.  How good is Murray?

hes somewhat limited given his average wingspan and not great athleticism, but in my opinion you can tell he really tries hard.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Murray is a poor defender. Very slow to move. That also leads to my concern with his shooting. Yes he is a great shooter but will he be able to get his shot off regularly enough or will he struggle like Jimmer Fredette?
I know people often overrate athleticism but you need some of it to be good in the NBA

The Celts desperately need a star.

Bender could be a bust but I think the pick at 3 has got to be him unless it's traded for Okafor or Butler.

Close your eyes, hold your nose, and hope like heck for the next Porzingis.

Gonna be hoping like heck for a while. He aint the next Porzingis.

Ainge said he is looking for immediate help that means it is not going to be Bender, folks.   That kid has project stamped on his forehead.

Hm. I didn't pay much attention to Young in college, but quite a few people here talked him up as a great shooter. Guess I was misinformed.

Is there really anyone in this draft (outside of Ingram and Simmons) who could provide immediate help? I guess that might depend on one's definition of "help," or the level of help one is expecting. To me, "immediate help" means trading the No. 3 as part of a package deal for an established all-star-level player.

What makes you think Ingram and Simmons are anything close to immediate help?

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
As disappointed as some people are tonight---I think that this No.3 pick is gonna gain a lot of value over the next month---as teams go through the workouts.

Everyone knows Picks 1 and 2 will be practically impossible to trade for...so, maybe Danny is in a good position.

Maybe Danny can trade down with Phoenix (3/16 for 4/13)--and take Murray and Skal...then take Maker with number 23....wouldn't be bad at all....I dunno---but there Will be lots of chances to make a deal.
Skal Labissiere will be a bust. DA needs to trade guards for bigs. He does not know how to draft bigs.

Murray averaged 20ppg, as a freshman, in the SEC and shot 40% from 3. I'd say he still has some upside, no?
Fredette didn't put up those kind of stats, in the Mountain West Conference, until his junior year.
I think Murray has some limitations, yes, as I agree with some of your concerns, but Larry Bird wasn't overly athletic, and neither is Steph Curry. What they have is great work ethic, hand/eye coordination and high bball IQ. He'll be OK. Fredette or Adam Morrison he is not.

I'm just going by what seems to be the majority opinion on those two. Maybe neither will provide immediate help. My point being, I haven't heard anyone say that anyone beyond those two could provide immediate help.

I love Ingram. I think he should be the number one overall pick, and have thought so for months. He will not provide immediate help next year. I think Buddy or Kris Dunn will provide the most immediate help, depending on where they land. Poeltl could be good immediately as well.
