Cant really disagree with Skiles that that group of players isnt a good fit. Watched them a lot and there was never any cohesion with that group. Most of those players only want to do their thing rather than sacrificing for the betterment of the team. Its probably because they are so young but I am not so sure. It seemsblike there is just no on the court leadership or chemistry

I think a lot of that can be laid at Skiles' feet. Just the wrong personality for a young team.

Mike Woodson was apparently a finalist for the job, as was Mark Jackson and Fred Hoiberg. I think any one of those guys would have been a better choice. (Jackson the least, but still better.)
I don't think a lot of the blame for what I have seen over the last three years can be put on Skiles. I felt the same about the team the year before and Skiles wasn't coaching there. I think its definitely the roster construction.

I think there are some issues there, too. Redundancies of skill-sets in the forwards, poor shooting.

But there have been vets on the roster in previous years (Channing Frye, notably) to help with the culture. And the players seemed to want to play for Jacque Vaughn by all accounts.

I can't see young players wanting to play for Skiles. How does he motivate them? Get them to buy in?

I do agree that there seemed to be a leadership vacuum on the court. I don't agree that its on the players. Skiles, and Vaughan before him shuffled and screwed with their lineups and schemes so much that nobody had any idea what the pecking order was.

Actually, I take that back, I do agree that there were/are selfish players. Vucevic especially, maybe my least favorite 'talented' center in the league.

But I think it is a result of crappy coaching compounded by mixed messages from management. I watched about as many Magic games this year as I did Celtics games, and I don't think its fair to say guys like Oladipo, Gordon, or even really Fournier really played 'selfishly' or 'never bought in', Oladipo especially with how Skiles jerked him around in the lineup, leaking rumors that he was available in trade when he wasn't..

If the Magic had fired Hennigan and hired Sean Marks and Marks hired Kenny Atkinson to replace Skiles, does anyone feel like this team wouldn't do better than they did last year?

Just something about the Devos family --> Hennigan --> Coach dynamic that makes me think this won't work out, almost no matter who they hire. Kind of similar to the Hinkie situation.

Woah! Does anyone know the reason behind it?

Getting out now before he got fired after next season. Smart move

I think this is maybe the most succinct synopsis I've seen. Skiles didn't think the Magic game plan would result in W's.

Two years ago that team was neck and neck with the Celtics, and arguably had a brighter future.  Just shows the value of having a great coach, who gets his players to bye in, and play together.
