Woah! Does anyone know the reason behind it?
Says he is not the right fit for the team.

He must have a promise to coach somewhere else, because I can't see him voluntarily giving up that much money just for not being "the right fit for the team."

Orlando presumably would be able to block such a move if they desire, unless it's college.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Still, there's got to be more to the story. I can't see someone turning down millions of dollars a year just because they're not the perfect fit with the roster. Player issues? Management issues? I haven't heard anything about either of those possibilities.

Usually something like "fit" is code speak for not getting along with the GM/front office but I don't recall any rumblings of that nature with ORL.

I just read on twitter that the GM thought Elfrid Payton was the pg of the future and Skiles did not.

Rob Hennigan is wrong.

http://www.clickorlando.com/sports/power-struggle-led-to-skiles-resignation-sources-say

Quote
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando Magic head coach Scott Skiles found himself in a power struggle with general manager Rob Hennigan, leading to the coach's unexpected resignation, according to News 6 sports director David Pingalore's sources.

After recent back-and-forth discussions with Magic management, Skiles could not get what he wanted so he stepped down, sources said.

Sources told Pingalore that if Hennigan wasn't going to be removed, Skiles was left with no choice in his mind but to resign.

"Skiles doesn't believe this team can win in its current state, regardless of the free agents that the Magic would acquire in the offseason," said sources, adding that Skiles wanted more control of personnel.

Accodring to Pingalore's league sources,  Skiles and Hennigan never saw eye to eye on roster matters.

Skiles was not been a fan with a number of the players on the roster, said sources, adding that Skiles thought point guard Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo should have been traded.

Sounds like Skiles was under a (seriously) false impression when he was initially hired.

A bad decision (by both parties) from the beginning. I seriously hope they go after Vogel.

Why the heck did he take the coaching job in the first place?

Wasn't it apparent during the interview process (both to him & the front office) that there was an issue?

Also of note, apparently Skiles tried to quit a few times during the season, and always recanted.

Cant really disagree with Skiles that that group of players isnt a good fit. Watched them a lot and there was never any cohesion with that group. Most of those players only want to do their thing rather than sacrificing for the betterment of the team. Its probably because they are so young but I am not so sure. It seemsblike there is just no on the court leadership or chemistry

Ton of talent .....but this,is a product of choosing the Best Player Available method.   At of guys playing out of position ......no complete team........

Too many YOUNG players ,  not enough vets to set the tone and establish anything permanent .

Magic is not a lot better mgmt than Philly was......years and years of waiting out the lottery and the next LeBron .

Coach don't want to,wait forever to land the big fish.

Trade YOUR picks for a star.

I think a lot of that can be laid at Skiles' feet. Just the wrong personality for a young team.

Mike Woodson was apparently a finalist for the job, as was Mark Jackson and Fred Hoiberg. I think any one of those guys would have been a better choice. (Jackson the least, but still better.)

have to agree.  team would probably function much better with a vet PG that knows how to run an offense and get everyone involved.  I'd say Rondo but they also need a PG that can shoot better than Rondo.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- I'd love to see Mike Conley on that team.

I don't think a lot of the blame for what I have seen over the last three years can be put on Skiles. I felt the same about the team the year before and Skiles wasn't coaching there. I think its definitely the roster construction.
