Say we trade for a Okafor or Butler , we are going to have to give up some value

1) Who has more value ? AB on a good contract for the next few years, or Smart on a rookie deal ?

2) Who would be more effective on a contender ?

3) Who had more upside ?

To me I would rather keep AB I think , he can guard quicker PG's better , and has a legit 3 pt shot while still being under a cost controled contract . Smart probably has more upside and is on a rookie contract for a few more years .

But Bradley is ready to contribute to a contender on a consistent basis . Probably best defender against Curry in the league .  Plus if we got Butler he can defend the bigger Wings in the league , much like Smart does .

Not in love with either one and it was a tough choice but I went with AB for the reasons of excellent defense with much better shooting than I think Smart will ever reach.

Smart. More versatile on the defensive end and younger than Bradley. He's also a better ball handler and facilitator.

Smart has *way* more value. AB is currently a better player, but really not by much; he's a much better shooter, but his other offensive skills are below average, while Smart has started to show some ability as a slasher, as a PnR playmaker, and as a distributor. Smart is also an outstanding rebounder on both ends. It's fair to assume that within a year, Smart will be much better than AB at every offensive skill except shooting, making him a net better offensive player even if he doesn't become a competent shooter. Defensively, AB is an unreal on-ball defender, but Smart has surpassed him overall with his versatility and off-ball defense. AB is on a good contract, but he's still getting paid a lot more than Smart, and he'll be a UFA whereas Smart will be restricted when he hits FA.

Also, I would not be happy if we traded either for Okafor. I think that he will always be a bad NBA player who gets overrated and overpaid. He is one of the worst defensive big men I have ever seen.

TP. This is spot-on, in addition to Smart having a pretty decent size advantage on Bradley, which is relevant since we're fairly small in other places, too. Smart's ceiling is also significantly higher than Bradley's ceiling, too.

If it's Okafor I'd want to keep Bradley. I'd think his outside shooting would be more important.

If it's Jimmy Butler I'd want to keep Smart because I'd think his ball skills would be important behind IT.

I also admit that Smart's defense at 4 positions is exceptionally valuable.

How about this theory.  Rozier looks like he can contribute next year, signs of being a good player.  Can he replace Bradley or smart ?

Hence my vote for keeping smart, best guard defender I've seen since payton

Rozier should be an OK fourth guard next year and he might develop into a starting-caliber player, but I don't think he's a factor when you're talking about major roster moves and core players.

If the trade is for Okafur, I give up Smart, because we'd need AB's outside shooting.

If the trade is for Butler, I give them whomever they want of AB or Smart because Butler is more than worth giving up either of them.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

Voted AB - both are players who have been great value for the Celtics and both are players the team misses when they are injured. AB has been the more consistent player and he is a starter. I am not sure that Smart has the improvement in him that others see. If he does improve, especially as a ball handler, it could go the other way. Tough decision really.

I'd deal who ever it took. Each has their strength and weakness.

Smart. But I'd be unhappy about giving up either. I think we may find that this summer is the peak of ABs value. Whether Ainge would actually trade him is another matter
