Vlade Divac is tempted to select a head coach to pair with DeMarcus Cousins as the Sacramento Kings move into a new arena.

But the sense within the organization is Divac has become increasingly frustrated by Cousins' ongoing issues and is willing to test the trade market for the first time.

Cousins received considerable trade interest last offseason.

The Kings fired George Karl and are searching for a new head coach.

Id easily trade the Brooklyn pick for him. No doubt in my mind. Id also consider adding Smart, but Id rather not.

Would likely cost Smart/AB, Brk 16, Dal 16 and KO . They likely also want an additional Brk pick .......

I'd trade multiple Brooklyn picks for him. I expect Amir and Jerebko would go the other way for salary purposes and then KO with them to give them someone to complement Cauley-Stein. I don't think Smart would be included in a trade, I think Danny would manage to keep him

we don't have to include any salary going back to Sac because we have enough cap room to just absorb Cousins' contract only giving up draft picks if thats what they want .

I don't trust Voisin, who has an anti-Cousins agenda. Still, please let this be true.

That's true. I just assume they'd want the salary back to help meet the floor and that we would want the cap space to try and add another star such as Durant or Barnes or the like

Well that's not worth it. Players are like stocks and Cousins stock is volitile right now with only 2 years left on his deal. The Kings HAVE to trade him because there is no way in hell he is resigning there.

If we end up with the 1st or 2nd pick you could make the case that it is not worth it for us to trade JUST that pick for Cousins because of his behavior and years on his deal, because he could bolt.

I want Cousins because IMO that would prob make us Durant's #1 choice by far, especially since we could sign Ibaka/ Durant the next year. But getting Cousins should only cost us a pick and if it is the first pick then maybe even
1st pick,16th pick
4
Cousins + 8th pick

Yea I don't really see the kings giving up the best center in the league, and the 8th pick just for a rookie who may never hit cousins level (with his mentality and all) and the 16th pick.

We would have to go all in picks wise this year and include young assets to get their attention. And they wouldn't be including the 8th pick.

Cousins is damaged goods. He may command a top 2 pick and a few other picks but not like you are saying. I personally would sign Whiteside and keep our picks.

If I were a Kings fan, I'd find the idea that Vlade is making these decisions extremely depressing.

Vlade has 6 long years of history on Cousins with the Kings. He has put up monster regular season numbers yet has failed to get the Kings into the playoffs every year. This year he had more talent than he has ever had and the Kings have the beautiful number 8 spot..in the lottery. How many years can one blame management and coaching before the blame trickles down to the players. A true superstar brings out the best in those around them. This is the big unknown with Cousins..will he ever be more than a monster regular season numbers machine type of player.

My big fear with Cousins is that he does not appear be to make others around him any better. Instead of motivating players when times get tough, he loses his cool(we have seen that multiple times).

I would be very afraid to give away all of the Brooklyn gold in picks for a chance to prove his history wrong. Do we really want to empty our chest of picks for the hope that Cousins excels in the playoff light and high stress environment. And this assumes he gets the team into the playoffs.

Ways I would do this trade:
1. Commitment from Durant he will come to Boston if Cousins does. It would be the only way I would consider a top pick in the draft for him. I might consider this scenario with Butler as well but less likely as it would leave us without picks until the next decade and not sure it is even possible to trade for 2 stars.
2. If the pick falls out of the top 2. I would definitely feel more willing to take a risk if the pick is 3-6 plus a future pick and some players but who do we have that would even peak their curiosity. We are on full display right now in the playoffs and role players are not going to get Cousins, no matter how many picks we send them. It would need to be Herschel Walker like kind of trade and we saw how that panned out for the Vikings. Sometimes the last piece of the puzzle is actually the final nail in your coffin.

The most likely trade partner for the Kings is the Sixers. Say what you want about them but they could clearly outbid us for that to happen. Not only can they give away a top 5 pick in this years draft(maybe 2 of them), but they could offer future picks and a center to replace Cousins- This is the key. Can you imagine a trade of 1 or 2 in this years draft plus the Kings choice of Centers from the Sixers roster. We cant even come close to that. As we all know, we do not have any centers on our team that are more lucrative than what the Sixers have. They could even give away 2 of them for Cousins. They might even be able to get Dario Saric, a good center prospect and a few top picks. The fact that management has now changed in Sixerland makes me think they will be the one to make the biggest splash this offseason as far as trades go. Danny would have to go beyond overpaying to beat them out and I am not even sure it is possible.

Who do we have as a player that is even close to what Cousins puts out in stats at the Center position? If Sully ate Kelly O and Amir, the new result would still not even come close to Cousins.

I believe Vlade's test will get him an amazing offer from the Sixers and now that the Sixers are done with their accumulation of assets, I can see of no better partner to deal with.

i see your point and agree to a point. but don't the sixers already have 3 talented centers? i am not sure they want to take on one more, even if a current one heads out.

i can see the sixers making trades to obtain wings and point guards more than a center. but, you may be right. things there have changed.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
