A very good friend of mine is a huge Ws fan from SF, and he told me that Barnes is not worth the max. He said Barnes will be much worse on a team where he is not surrounded by HOFers like he is now, and that he's not *that* good right now, even.

I have a tough time believing he'll demand significantly more on the open market than the extension he was offered, (4 years, $64 million) even with the cap spike. I don't understand the hype, reminds me too much of Jeff Green. All the physical tools in the world but just doesn't have that takeover mentality. And yes he's playing with the splash bros and Draymond, but uncle Jeff played with KD, Westbrook and Harden. I don't know, too much of a risk for me. He's done nothing to prove that he's capable of being a big time player and someone capable of being a scoring leader. I'd struggle to give him more than 10/12 million.

SG: Ray Allen, OG Anunoby, Zach Lavine
SF: Paul Pierce, Gordon Hayward

he turn down an offer of 16million so you think he will get more than that?
a team who needs a SF?
lets say wizards pelicans?

do you think if you offered 17 GSW Will matched it to 18million? or 19 or 20 million is enough for barnes to say yes?... i just don't think he is worth 21 million above

Obviously he wouldn't be as good without the splash bros and Draymond, but that's what Barnes is. A championship level role player. An athletic 3 and D wing is very valuable right now in the NBA. The point is you overpay to get him for nothing. He isn't actually worth the max, but getting another great role player like him for no additional assets would allow us to make a significant overpay for a star and not feel it as much. Barnes is the perfect player who can be successful without the ball in his hands.

Harrison Barnes is ranked 61 out of 81 SF's in defensive RPM.  That is NOT good!!!!  He was NOT a good defensive player at UNC!!!  He is NOT one NOW!!!!

Thoughts on this side of the ball??????

That's the risk right there and I agree completely.

Compare him to the guy who never broke out (Green) and the guy who did (Harden). To me he's a heckuva lot more like Green.

If Jeff Green frustrated the heck out of you, this guy will do the same and have a much more costly price tag.

Yeah, we were mad at Green for $9M/yr...Barnes will get more than double that. I suppose it's possible that he's ready to break out, but I wouldn't be ecstatic about the signing.

He is going to get paid well, probably $1-2M more than the offer he rejected. So, maybe $17.5 or $18 per. There is a lot of cap room this summer and his timing is fantastic.

It's definitely buyer beware based on stats, but based on super young age, excellent physique, well rounded skill set and "projection" to potentially have star quality in him, that's enough to get a great contract.

Remember when Avery Bradley's contract looked highly questionable? That he would have to play into his contract? That deal looks pretty awesome right now. I think that's the logic behind whoever pays Barnes a lot of money.

I understand the ease of the Jeff Green comparison, but:

1) He shoots the 3 better than Green -- 38% to 34%.

2) He would be two years younger than Green at the time of their respective deals (age 24 vs. 26).  Accordingly, Barnes is likely to continue to improve.  Research has pegged the average age for peak performance in NBA players at 26, so Green was likely at or near his peak when he got his deal.  Barnes could show more in the future (see: Avery Bradley).

3) Barnes reportedly wants a bigger role. There's no indication Green ever wanted to be "the man." That Barnes hasn't been able to take a leading role on arguably the best team in NBA history shouldn't be seen as an automatic strike against him.

4) Even as disappointing as Green was, he still netted back a 1st round pick when traded.  When the time came to move his contract, it wasn't terribly difficult.

Harrison Barnes would be a risk, sure.  Obviously KD should be the first target as a SF.  But Barnes is a risk worth taking if we can't get KD.

Someone will pay him around $18m and it may turn out to be fair value, and it may not. I don't think that someone will be us, though; it would be a poor use of cap space when we have a chance to get someone better in 2017 (or even in 2016).

who do you think a team will pay 18million to barnes?
is that enough to lure barnes from GSW?
or GSW will offer more than 18? from its original offer of 16?

Is he even that much better than crowder? I think not.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about
